Raleigh, N.C. US Senator Richard Burr has taken a commanding 20 percentage point lead over Democratic opponent Elaine Marshall, according to a new National Research, Inc. poll released today by the Civitas Institute.
According to the poll of 600 likely voters, 49 percent of voters said they would vote for Richard Burr if the election for US Senate were held today. Twenty-nine percent of voters said they would vote for Marshall, and 17 percent said they are undecided.
Furthermore, unaffiliated voters are in support of Burr by a 48 percent-21 percent margin.
Marshall has been virtually non-existent in the media throughout the course of this election cycle, said Civitas Institute Senior Legislative Analyst Chris Hayes. Burrs dominance of the television airwaves has allowed him to expand his lead.
Despite Marshall serving as North Carolina Secretary of State and state Senator, she remains relatively unfamiliar to voters, including among her Democratic base. Currently, just 51 percent of Democratic voters support Marshall. Conversely, Republican voters are backing Burr by a 79 percent-3 percent margin. Burr also leads among unaffiliated voters 48-21.
Marshall remains relatively unknown to the voters, even voters of her own party. This spells deep trouble for her, added Hayes. If she does not answer Burr on television soon, this race will quickly be over.
The Civitas Poll is the only monthly live-caller poll of critical issues facing North Carolina. For more information on Civitas polling see www.nccivitas.org/media/poll-results/.

According to the glass half empty crowd, Burr is in deep trouble because he can’t get over 50% and everybody knows that all the undecideds vote against the incumbent. < / sarcasm >
...good news...we still have a problem with Hagan and Perdue though.
Not entirely - he's done some things that earn respect - Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) authored S. 669. That carries some weight with me.
I disagree. The guy didn’t get to be the 6th most conservative Senator by sitting around being a complete mush.
Parkwood, a genteel subdivision of Durham, has 860 registered Democrat families, 460 registered Republican families. When you walk or drive through, the B J Lawson signs in the yards outnumber the David Price signs by a margin of around 10 to 1.
Yard signs don't vote. With that said it's better to be leading the yard sign race than to be losing it.
Maybe I didn’t phrase that as well as I could have. His voting record is OK. He’s a good friend of my MIL’s. He’s just not inspiring, that’s all. He’s not getting any of the young folks I know to the polls this election. It’s like he doesn’t exist. Etheridge and Price are the ones they’re voting against. Voting for Burr is just something you do while you’re there.
Fine. You disagree, but I’m going to the polls to vote against Price. I’ve never voted for a Democrat in my life (except Jim Graham). While I’m there, I’ll vote for Burr. I mean, it’s a lock, right?
Yeah, I understand what you mean though frankly I appreciate a guy I don’t have to hover over ALL the time. Hard to sell a “white bread” candidate though.
Thanks for your vote and effort against Price (D-Muslim Brotherhood). I’ll be joining you on election day doing my part to throw that bum out.
Stick a fork in her, she is done.
little dickie burr also sided with his master, McCain, in not defunding ACORN...burr isnt much to brag about and will be a third tier guy till he is replaced.
