Tea Party: Republicans as Much to Blame as Dems

Senate Candidates Rubio, Buck Say GOP Needs to be Held Accountable for Spending and Balanced Budget Promises.

Marco Rubio, the Florida Republican Senate nominee aligned with the Tea Party movement, went on the offensive against the GOP on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday, saying that both the Republican and the Democratic parties are to blame for the country's problems.

Rubio said that politics today is "full of people that think they can say or do anything, because once they get elected they think they'll raise so much money they can make you forget."

Rubio took on Florida's popular incumbent Governor Charlie Crist in the primary for the Republican Senate nomination and won. (Crist left the party before the primary and is now running as an independent.)

The candidate, who has become one of the poster boys of the Tea Party movement, said that Republicans need to be held accountable.

"Remember, the Republicans had a majority in Washington for the better part of 10 to 12 years. They didn't fulfill some of the promises they had made in '94 when they were elected - things like a balance budget amendment, things like banning earmarks, things like term limits," Rubio said.

"If you say you're going to do that and you get elected, then do it."

No, not really. To paraphrase Churchill, the graveyards are full of indispensable conservatives.

One is either a Republican or not. ‘Conservative’ is not a party.

And all "Republicans" are NOT the SAME.

RINOs are the problem. What ever is the largest party opposite the RATS must be the the opposition, three parties do not work except FOR the opposition.

That the RINOs have taken over leadership and majority of the Republicans, leading them as the RAT-LITE Party does not change the fact that there are CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS who are attempting to steer the party and purge the RINOs with conservative replacements.

Like it or not, all Republicans are NOT to blame, not even close.

I say this and I am royally PI$$ED off at the GOP. But reality is, the GOP must either be the party we take --or-- it must disappear to make room for a real Tea Party. I do not see the latter happening soon enough to help in the short term at least.

Any word on how Congresswoman Bachmann’s Tea Party caucus will accept Tea Party candidates? Automatic or invitation? Thanks

True, but you have to take out the trash before you can vacumn the carpet. Bennett, Murkyowski, Castle was just the beginning. Will take several election cycles to get all the RINOs out. Are you listening Lindsey?

’ Like it or not, all Republicans are NOT to blame, not even close.’

Yes, they are part of the problem. The fact that some people don't see that is delusional.

The core problem is, when someone assumes the GOP label, the Party fails to hold that person accountable.

The GOP has a party platform, and of course the Constitution, they have failed on both parts. The sooner that is corrected the better. Putting 'conservative' before Republican, solves nothing, they are still a member of the GOP.

agree...some are so stupid...can't see the forest for the trees...same way clinton was elected in 1992...except then it was Perot who divided the vote...this time it is just a different straw man choice of words!

I just looked up the quote. It was De Gaulle and not Churchill. My bad.

I agree, when you have to vote for the lesser of two evils, there is a problem with the system.

The Republican party is the home of conservatives. The fault for the condition of the Republican party falls on all conservatives. As to those conservatives who aren’t in the party, why aren’t you? Is it because as an outsider you get to snipe at and hate on those who put themselves out there? Criticism is easy, doing takes effort.

I’d take him more seriously if he wasn’t chumming around with Romney and Giuliani and raising money for liberals like Scott Brown.

The Republican party is the home of conservatives.

Well, at least they're penned up there, ready for use.

Time to give up the party label and start supporting correct actions. Holding onto the GOP will only bring heartache. Just how many decades do you intend to hold on? Maybe until the Country collapses under the weight of our deficit spending? Yea, I know, it’s all for the children...

I said ALL Republicans and not to blame, as is SOME of them are NOT to blame.

I have not exonerated the leadership or the weakling RINOs.

To not see THAT is delusional. If you replace the RINOs with conservatives, THEY write the platform. Problem solved.

I was working for a RINO in the Senate for a few years in the 80s. I was a Reagan conservative so needless to say I didn't make it a career. Anyway, I remember how scared they were of Reagan and conservatism when he was swept in, and how he felt like he had to do what Reagan wanted, even though he thought Reagan was an idiot. Half the Democrats felt that way, too, which is how we got the tax cuts passed. After a while, when Reagan's poll numbers went down, I remember how this same Senator felt liberated to be himself. He was so happy, he could go back to being buddies with the NY Times and opposing conservative policies.

Thankfully, I got a job with a conservative Congressman who came in in 1980 with Reagan (same class as Duncan Hunter, too, who I met back then). He stayed true, and I enjoyed working for him.

That experience helps me understand how guys like McConnell, Conyers and Graham think. You will hear all kinds of lip service paid for a while after November. But don't ever forget that they are just waiting for the moment that they believe the Tea Party is weakened or has lost steam to revert back. You can't reform a RINO, there is not a single precedent in all of human history for it. Mittbots that includes you.
