CA: Karen England - WHY I AM RUNNING FOR LT. GOVERNOR (write-in alternative to Maldonado)
Flash Report ^ | 9-16-2010 | Karen England

Posted on 09/26/2010 6:46:52 PM PDT by calcowgirl

I began the week, along with many of you, urging acting governor Abel Maldonado to file the State’s appeal in the federal case involving Proposition 8. I end the week as his opponent and a candidate for the office of Lieutenant Governor.

To some this may seem extreme or be dismissed as a publicity stunt. It is neither. It is the proper response when we find the two front runners for the office of Lieutenant Governor do not share our principles, our values or our respect for the legal system.

The democratic nominee and mayor of San Francisco is the poster child for self-indulgent government that disregards the will of the public. The Republican nominee, who leveraged betrayal of his party into an appointment to this vacant position, showed an inability to properly lead in his brief debut this past week as acting governor. His actions were so disturbing that I believe he is now unelectable to this position.

If Republicans and conservatives wish to be represented in this important office, we must look beyond the names preprinted on our ballots. Today I offer myself as a write-in candidate for the office of California Lieutenant Governor.

Admittedly my sudden candidacy raises many questions. As a longtime Republican I am open to criticism in running against the Republican nominee. Won’t my candidacy hurt the chances for the Republican nominee? Should we not just go for the win and support whoever has an R behind their name?

First, as I noted before, I believe that Abel Maldonado has made himself unelectable. My candidacy may be the only chance for a Republican to win this seat.

But more than that, Republicans have been tempted too many times to “go for the win”. If Abel Maldonado was running for reelection as governor, I might be persuaded that I should hold my nose and vote for the member of my party. But he is not. He is running for an office with much less power that is often seen as the governor-in-waiting. We need to send a clear message now that Maldonado should not be regarded as the favorite for the Republican nomination for governor four or eight years down the road.

If you want to join me in restoring integrity and principled leadership to the office of Lieutenant Governor, please visit our web site at www.KarenEnglandforcalifornia.com.

Do you know anything about England?

She's been a conservative California warrior for quite a while -- largely on social issues (prop 8, etc). Her opposition is quickly trying to paint her as just another one of those whacko right wing uber conservative nut jobs. Of course, they think Maldonado is moderate, lol.

http://karenengland4california.com/about/

Karen England is the Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute, a non-profit organization that provides education and advocacy for family values. She has led its work in the California state legislature and at local government levels for 10 years. CRI is the oldest and largest pro-family public policy organization in California.

Her public policy involvement began with combating anti-family policies at the local and state levels, as she saw their impact on her own family. After this, Karen began volunteering with Concerned Women for America, and became the Legislative Liaison for Eagle Forum.

In her position at CRI, Karen has been described as “a point person for conservatives.” Legislators and others seek out Karen for her incisive and consistently pro-family analysis of current legislation. As the creator of “Day at the Capitol,” Karen brings regular citizens into the legislative and advocacy process. Audiences enjoy her as a dynamic speaker who shows people how to impact public policy for the family values they hold.

Karen brings a special enthusiasm to equipping youth, who are the next generation of pro-family leaders. She directs the City on the Hill Youth Leadership Conference. Each summer, students become mock legislators for the week, receive hands-on training in grassroots organization, learn about their Christian heritage, and more. During the academic year, Karen conducts seminars on civic involvement at public and private high schools.

Karen serves her state and nation in a range of capacities. She has been appointed by Congressman McClintock to serve on the California Republican Party State Central Committee, where she serves on the important Initiatives Committee. Karen is the National Committee Woman for the California Republican Assembly and board member to the National Federation of Republican Assemblies. She was recently elected to the Placer County Republican Central Committee. In 2005 she was appointed spokeswoman for California’s Prop 73 campaign. She brought her passion and advocacy skills to the campaign, in arguing that parents should be notified before minors undergo surgical abortion. Prior to the Republican National Convention in 2004, Karen was named Housing Director for the California Delegation.

The media regularly feature Karen in print, radio, and television coverage of family issues. She has represented family values in outlets including FOX News, The O’Reilly Factor, The Laura Ingram Show, the San Francisco Chronicle, WorldNetDaily, and others. Her writing has appeared on the FlashReport, California’s version of the Drudge Report, and elsewhere.

Karen is happily married to John England. They reside in Roseville, California.

Me too!

I haven’t been following news as much as usual, so I was unaware of her recent efforts. The phone rang a while ago and you could tell from caller ID that it was a poll or something. They started, “will you be voting in the November election”.... “YES”... “Will you be voting for Gavin Newsom for Lt. Gov”.... “NO.”

What I expected next, of course, was some BS about how great Maldonado is. Much to my surprise, I learned about the write-in campaign.

Now... what do we do in the Dem vs. Dem SOS race? Grrrr...

You're fortunate that the Governor and Lt. Governor are elected seperately in California. In Illinois, they run independently in the primary and you can vote for whoever you want, but in the general election they're elected as a team by party. In November, voting for a Republican candidate for Governor automatically casts a vote for whoever the Republican candidate for Lt. Governor is.

In 2006, ultra-RINO Judy Baar Topinka used this to her advantage and talked a conservative county attorney into selling his soul and being her running mate, trying to bribe conservatives into voting her in November so we could get a decent conservative as Lt. Governor. It didn't work.

This election, the primary resulted in conservatives winning both the Governor and Lt. Governor primary, with 28 year old Jason Plummer as our nominee for Lt. Governor. It's now even more imperative to elect Brady, because after 8 or 12 years, Plummer will be old enough and have the experience to be his heir apparent.

In 2006, we were forced to cast a write-in vote for Governor because the three ballot choices were ultra-RINO scum (Topinka), Democrat machine scum (Blago), or Green Party loon (Whitney).

Saw this on the other FR, Flash Report, and she has two votes from this house too. I’m writing in Brian FitzGerald for insurance commissioner too for the principle of it.

I'm in. Maldonado is the last guy I want to see elevated in this party.

I hope Sal Russo picks this up. It's time for the Tea Party and California conservatives to let the GOP know that the reason they have been losing has been and will be because we've had it with Bob White, Pete Wilson, Gerry Parsky, Arnold, and crew.

Oh wow, so I may have a better choice here? I can’t vote
for Maldonado, but niether do I like Newsom, ugh, so
I had thought I would not vote for either choice.
I also just got a call from England asking whether I had
a favourable opinion of Newsom and whether I would vote for a candidate in the lieutenant governor’s race.

I’m thinking of writing in Aanestad for SOS, too. Anybody has to be better than the Rove-recruited Fla Democrat(R)

California has tough restrictions on eligibility for write-in candidates. Is she eligible for sure?

I think she would be familiar with that process when she announced that she “launched” a campaign. She’s hired some professional campaign guns. October 19 is the deadline for filing the “Statement of Write-in Candidacy” and “Nomination Papers”. With almost 1/2 of people voting absentee, I’m not sure that will work out too well for her. It doesn’t look like she can get herself into the voter pamphlet or sample ballot (but I’m not sure about that.)

Karen England is the ideal choice for conservatives. She will stand on what she believes is right, her principles, despite what other people think of her.

She understands the role of government and will always stand up for the people.

I got the robo call last night as well. She’s better than the choices we’ve been left with. John Eastman in the primary was great for this spot, but the gop elites didn’t let it happen.
