Thats a pretty huge assumption of certainly given the paucity of data.If the planet crosses in front of the star (from our perspective) perhaps we can obtain a chemical spectrum of its atmosphere and determine if certain life-indicating molecules are present in the atmosphere. There are various molecules thought to exist in large numbers only if living organisms are continually replenishing them.
