You knew the America's Cup needed an enemy

And speaking of the America's Cup, just when the city's political factions were playing nice and putting up a unified front, Supervisor Chris Daly announced late Thursday he was opposed to the proposal "just on general principle -- G.P., they call it on the street."

. . .

"They'll just sweep the homeless people out of the streets and out of sight while the regatta is going," Daly said. "Instead of raising $270 million to hand over to a billionaire, why don't we try to house some people . . . "

Maybe because a large number of the ‘homeless’ in San Francisco prefer to panhandle (militantly and aggressively), live on the streets, do drugs, and get handouts or steal.

Even if you put them in decent houses, like Habitat for Humanity, how many of them would respect something for nothing and how much of the housing would be ruined within six months?

I’ve seen public housing in San Francisco - I didn’t even want to drive my 10 year old car within a block of it. It is far worse than anything I’ve seen in San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston.

Some of these people require hospitalization. Some probably do require help finding reasonable housing while they find a job to support themselves.

Most of them require a good swift kick in the rear and some “tough love” to force them to fend for themselves instead of enabling them to be bums.

ALL of them require a less intrusive, less over-taxing government that scared away California businesses and jobs, and so restricted development such that even at the nadir of the housing bust, nobody can afford a house in California.

Texas or Florida should just confiscate the race based on California/San Francisco’s fundamental incapacity to govern itself...it belongs in a real American city anyway.
