In the low-key race to represent rural Hawaii, Democratic U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono is seeking re-election against a tea party candidate who describes himself as her complete opposite.

Republican John Willoughby, an airline pilot making his first run for political office, says he would slash taxes, reduce government waste and be more independent than Hirono, who is seeking her third two-year term representing Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District.

John Willoughby is a U.S. Navy veteran and won the Republican Primary to oppose Hirono . And yet the Hawaii Republican Party sees him as un-electable ,and thus will not support him in any way . Even after enlisting him to run . They have in a way advance surrendered CD2 to the Democrats and the Progressives , without a fight . You need money to get your message out and to counter negative ads by the opposition.

Now, there is a point of diminishing returns, whereby more money does not provide much more electability beyond that point.

However, there is also a critical mass threshold below which the voters do not get the candidate’s message.

Congresswomen Hirono and Hanabusa. What a night mare. Just like the two Dans (Inoue and Akaka) for senators. Let's make sure that doesn't happen. Help Congressman Charles Djou (R-HI) to keep the seat!

Team Djou
