Los Angeles, CA – BACM Research/PaperlessArchives.com has published correspondences between Senator Barack Obama and the Department of Defense, dating from March 3, 2005 to February 8, 2008. These documents were released in October 2010 by the Department of Defense, after a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

These files can be downloaded for free at:

Topics of the letters include:

Deployment of Illinois National Guard units.

Request for information concerning the assigning of casualty specialists to the next of kin of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Questions about National Guard members being exposed to toxic substances while deployed to Mississippi and Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.

The impact of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process on Illinois military installations.

The use of Blackwater private security personnel in Iraq.

Concern over reports of civilian casualties arising from the U.S. military’s use of white phosphorus in Iraq.

Concern that Department of Defense’s American Forces Network (AFN) had a lack of political balance in its broadcast of talk radio programming. The letter expressed that, "AFN Radio carries the shows of a wide range of conservatives, including Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura Schlesinger, and James Dobson, to the near total exclusion of progressive talk radio hosts"

It’s that “flush enemy forces out of protected positions” I favor. I remember working with a guy who was a Korean War vet and Sherman tank gunner. The common tactic was to have a Sherman come up to perform a fire mission in support of infantry. They would fire a white phosphorous round into the Norks/Chinese trenches and when they started jumping up and down with Willie Peter burning through their cloths we would follow up with anti-personnel rounds. Nothing personal, just business.

No wonder the worthless U.N. wants to ban it. It gives advanced countries an advantage over rag-tag bands of criminals.

Boy, does Mr. Skittles write funny letters. We have never used WP as an illuminating round (per Mr. Skittles), because, well it doesn’t illuminate. Methinks the staffer who wrote this letter had seen one too many war films and confused Illumination Rounds with Willy Pete. Wow. How embarrassing. Maybe if the then good Senator had employed someone with military background he would have been shielded from his own ignorance. He kind of suffers from the same problem today.

Dear Senator Obama,

It is simply not true that white phosphorous "can burn human skin down to the bone". It burns human skin down to the underlying muscle and connective tissue, which it then in turn, burns down to, and frequently through the bone.

We are glad to have had this opportunity to address your concerns, and would gladly entertain any other dumb-ass inquiries you might have.
