I've encountered some pretty courageous people in my time. I once shook John Glenn's hand. I've seen Pierce Brosnan sing in public. But the bravest guy I've met lately is Pierre-Henri Raphanel, the pilote officiel for the Molsheim, France-based car maker Bugatti. It was Mr. Raphanel who, in July, strapped himself into the new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport and circuited Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track at an astonishing 268 mph, setting a new Guinness land-speed record for a production car.

sweeeet!
It’s fast, but not as fast or as good looking as the new American-built Shelby Supercars Ultimate Aero II.
275mph of pure beauty.

I love the Veyron. Possibly the best car ever built. Riding in one at 200mph is a dream. It does not feel like stuff is about to fall off and act like the car is about to disintegrate,
Gawd, can't imagine a ride like that. It's freaky.
The Super Sport can accelerate from highway speeds to more than 200 mph in the time it takes you to read this sentence out loud. Literally.
Yeah, but how many bales of hay can that thing carry?
Yeah. I drive a truck too.

Had a 1987 XJS up to 120+ out on, appropriately, Racetrack Road, back in the day. The mirrors started vibrating and it felt like it was going to float away. So I backed off. Never had a hankering to push it after that.
“one gigantic Newtonian sneeze.” - the author.
Where do you strap the deer onto that thing?
I love fast...but I am glad I don’t have to feed all those horses.
I once took a 1982 Honda Civic 1800 coupe up to 100mph with three other frat bros in the car and they had no idea we were going that fast. I got 40 mpg in that car most of the time.
Aero is also a better buy, if you have that kind of money.
Base price est. $585,000 vs. $1,500,000 for Veyron
Have also heard that the Veyron has an annual maintenance cost of over $300,000.
Beautiful cars though.
Had a similar experience in a 74 XKE V12, with the top down in winter, on the Blue Ridge Parkway in southern Virginia. Hardly anybody on the road in the dead of winter, since large sections tend to be closed due to snow drifts.
It was an experience, lol. Beautiful car, beautiful girlfriend sitting beside me on the console, her beautiful, nutty mom driving, bright sun reflecting off snowy fields, road dry as a bone and zero traffic.
My favorite car for a decade. I had a few XJS aged from 85-88. If they had low mileage, at 142 it was so quiet and smooth you could hold a conversation and pass the caviar. The car was very heavy, and sat down low at high speeds. The only sound was the swoooooshing wind. Nothing scary, and in complete control. Only available in a 3 speed automatic. A Vette back then at 130 was so light it felt like if you sneezed you would wipe out.
Seriously, it's probably better for carrying checks to the guy that takes care of the livestock than for doing the actual hauling, but for those that can afford it. Wowza. Gotta be fun.

220 is about as fast as you can go in free fall while in a complete nose-first dive. (below 10,000 ft.)
And the dealers were always picking your pocket when you came in for service.
Otherwise...I can still smell the leather.
You put a hat and jacket on it, and strap it into a passenger seat and take the HOV lane on your way home. ;)
