An impeachment is coming for Barack Obama if the Republicans move into the majority in the U.S. House on Nov. 2, but they won't be able to remove him from the White House.
That's the forecast from Jonathan Chait at The New Republic, a statement that pushed him in front of a buzz saw of criticism.
"Hear me now and believe me later: If Republicans win and maintain control of the House of Representatives, they are going to impeach President Obama. They won't do it right away. And they won't succeed in removing Obama. (You need 67 Senate votes.) But if Obama wins a second term, the House will vote to impeach him before he leaves office," Chait wrote.
His prediction stirred an immediate furor among nay-sayers who ridiculed it, even though Chait is far from the first to broach the subject.
In the public forum section of Chait's column, "Ironyroad" wrote, "They'll buy themselves a race war. People aren't going to take it lying down, because they'll know it's because Obama's skin tone isn't to their taste, not because of high crimes and misdemeanors."

I’ll believe it when I see it. I am holding less-than-favorable views of the incoming Pubbies. They’re going to have to prove that business as usual is out of the mix and that they’re going to start bringing this country back to its roots. Until then, they’re just another -R in the goobermint.
Dems are scaremongering to try and gin up votes.
My physician just asked me to turn my head and scoff.
This is nothing more than Liberals trying ANYTHING to foment the base to action in advance of the election. This is completely bogus and akin to the James Byrd chain dragging commercial that implied George Bush dragged Byrd to his death a second time. An October surprise, if you will. The left is desperate!
I’m sure there are plenty of impeachable offenses by now, but doubt anyone has the backbone to even mention it.
I doubt that Obama will remain in office until the end of his first term. There are a number of things that might happen.
The Kenyan has committed so many acts of extortion, intimidation and outright thuggery, he should be tried under the provisions of the RICO. It’s not an administration, it’s a Kenyan crime family.
Not to forget to mention that the Kenyan is ineligible to be president.
I have no doubt there will be rioting if OWeBama isn’t reelected.
yea, whatever happened to James Rogan who read the impeachment order in the house against Clinton?
Our founding fathers provided us a way to remove a President without a civil war or revolution, it is impeachment.
Impeachment is a polictical act more than a legal one.
If the Republicans regain the house, it will then depend on how President Obama reacts. If the the Republicans begin to repeal some of his pet projects and he fights them or vetos them, then impeachment (or threat of one) will be used to bring him back in line.
This November’s election is a mandate on the President’s policies and the direction he has been taking the country, and many do not like what has been happening.
Will the Senate remove him from office? It depends on how big the Republicans win in November. The Democrats that remain in office may see their future in doubt if they continue to support the President’s policies.
RingerSIX has already voted for drawing and quartering.
And that's why the first thing the replubicans should do is demand an account of all personal info OWeBama is hiding, including showing a real BC.
His narcissism is really going to kick in after Nov. 2. Narcissists are dangerous and tend to implode when they know they’re in trouble.
If the good ship US is still headed for the iceberg in 2012, Republicans will no longer be in control. Americans want their out of control government brought back under control and put on a crash diet.
The biggest difference between Clinton and Obama, the majority of Americans actually like him and were willing to forgive.
The mood of the nation is not the same today.
“They’ll buy themselves a race war.”
No, they will just be taking the offensive in one which presently exists.
Anyway, they are not going to do it.
You can’t impeach a president because he vetoes a bill or fights politically to support his agenda.
Why waste time?
Dem Senators won’t vote to convict, no matter what. A bunch of ‘Pubbies will go along with ‘em.
Impeaching Obama would be a complete waste of time.
This is completely irresponsible talk. Basically, people seem to be saying if you disagree with a president’s politics, he can be impeached?
Obama needs to be defeated. First, on Nov. 2, by taking away his majority. Second, in 2012, by either “convincing” him not to run or by beating him at the ballot box.
