Defining Dallas down

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka is desperately trying to fire up his mem bers in the hope that they turn out at the polls -- and help avert what is shaping up to be a Democratic disaster.

And the best way to do that, he seems to think, is with hackneyed warnings that conservative rhetoric may incite violence.

It's gotten so bad, claims the coal-miner-turned-Big-Labor-fat-cat, that it reminds him of when similar angry talk veered off "the high road."

"You remember when John Kennedy got off the plane in Dallas, Texas, there were people on the airwaves talking about doing violence to the president," he told the National Journal.

"And what happened?" he asked ominously.

Well, everyone knows what happened.

But Trumka omitted a key fact from his warped history lesson: Folks on the right had nothing to do with violence that day.

The conspiracy theorists, which includes all left wingers, don’t believe that Oswald did it. Rather they believe that it was a right wing conspiracy because Kennedy was making a left turn, and getting us out of Vietnam. I got into an unwise argument two weeks ago with a couple of them. Facts don’t matter to them.

Fact - Kennedy was getting us further into Vietnam. the month before he was killed, he had Diem overthrown and killed.

Fact - the right had only to wait for the next election. Goldwater was running ahead of Kennedy in the polls. That’s why JFK was in Dallas shoring up his Southern base. The right had nothing to gain from the assassination, and gained nothing from it, in fact, as a result of the assassination, had to put up with Goldwater’s landslide defeat, and the Great Society.

If there was any conspiracy to kill JFK, it was either instigated by Castro, or the mob, or the Teamsters leader, Jimmy Hoffa, but then I repeat myself.

The left went into JFK conspiracy psychosis when it became evident that the assassin was as Jackie put it a "silly little communist". They could never accept that one of their kindred spirits had done the deed so hundreds of convoluted, absurd conspiracy scenarios were dreamed up to avoid the obvious. Predictably, lefty historian William Manchester blamed the 'climate of hate' in Dallas against JFK in his book "The Death of a President"(Actually, Oswald had tried to kill conservative Gen. Edwin Walker weeks before.)

I live in Tampa and most folks around here believe it was a Trafficante-Marcello designed hit bought by Jimmy H and executed by a little commie “patsy.”

Many years ago I talked with a member of the House Subcommittee on Assassinations who had concluded that Marcello’s fingerprints were all over the Kennedy assassination.

People, claiming to know firearms, say that Oswald couldn’t have done it. The one with the most to gain was LBJ. I suppose none of us will really know until the documents are declassified.

Living in Dallas at the time of the assassination, and having also lived in LBJ’s district, I am a firm believer in the LBJ did it camp.

LBJ was easily one of the most ruthless and ammoral people this government has ever had, and Lady Bird was lockstep wiht him in most of it. They could have easily aligned Oswald and others into this situation.
