Members of United States-allied Awakening Councils have quit or been dismissed from their positions in significant numbers in recent months, prey to an intensive recruitment campaign by the Sunni insurgency, according to government officials, current and former members of the Awakening and insurgents.
Although there are no firm figures, security and political officials say hundreds of the well-disciplined fighters many of whom have gained extensive knowledge about the American military appear to have rejoined Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia. Beyond that, officials say that even many of the Awakening fighters still on the Iraqi government payroll, possibly thousands of them, covertly aid the insurgency.
The defections have been driven in part by frustration with the Shiite-led government, which Awakening members say is intent on destroying them, as well as by pressure from Al Qaeda. The exodus has accelerated since Iraqs inconclusive parliamentary elections in March, which have left Sunnis uncertain of retaining what little political influence they have and which appear to have provided Al Qaeda new opportunities to lure back fighters.
The Awakening members switch in loyalties poses a new threat to Iraqs tenuous social and political balance during the countrys ongoing political crisis and as the United States military prepares to withdraw next year.
The Awakening doesnt know what the future holds because it is not clear what the government intends for them, said Nathum al-Jubouri, a former Awakening Council leader in Salahuddin Province who recently quit the organization.
At this point, Awakening members have two options: Stay with the government, which would be a threat to their lives, or help Al Qaeda by being a double agent, he said. The Awakening is like a database for Al Qaeda that can be used to target places that had been out of reach before.

Obam tossed success to get failure
I hate to support the CIC but we need to get the hell out of the Middle East. If those people want to live in the 14th century and kill each other, let them. If they attack us again, wipe them out. Either we get serious about war or we don’t. If we don’t, our kids will continue to die for nothing.
The War in Iraq was won — but not by the side our Black Muslim Marxist president is pulling for. So, quite simply, he did whatever was necessary to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And the Iraqi people are going to suffer terribly for it.
Next on is agenda: victory for the Taliban in Afghanistan.
A return to tribalism in the Middle East. Sunnis vs Shites. Who would have guessed. Eventually the Shites will overshelm the Sunnis and put them back in line. At least this time they are the Iraqi army’s problem. Let the Iraqis sort it out and keep the US soldiers out of harm’s way while they fight over who has the better moon god.
Actually, I think we are both right. Obama is, indeed, Arabic. But, I also believe that the Wright split from Farakhan was entirely contrived, and Wright’s organization is nothing more than a Black Muslim front group.

Bomb them all back into the Stone Age
Islam is the greatest curse to the fabric of humanity that has ever existed on this world . Muslims are truly Lucifer’s sons and agents
And there are still people who think this charlatan doesn't hate America.
He’s not a Arab, he’s indeed a black Moslem-appeasing Marxist. Kenneth Lamb never supplied evidence for his allegations, and when fellow FReeper Beckwith asked for some, Lamb never responded. Take a look at his dear daddy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama,_Sr.
Now, I’m no expert, but he doesn’t look even in the slighted bit Arab.
>Berry Obamas father’s birth certificate says he is an Arab.
So where or how can I see it?
>Every member of the father’s family have Arab names that separate them from the black Christians of Kenya.
Where does it say that?
Even if true, non-Arab Muslims often times have Arab or Arab derived names. Look at boxing’s own Muhammad Ali (originally Cassius Clay). He has a obviously Arab name, yet would you say he’s a Arab? Also, Barack’s granddaddy was named Hussein Onyango Obama. The Hussein is definetely Arabic, yet Onyango isn’t. It sounds totally African. So does “Obama”.
>This information is from Daniel Pipes not Cohen.
Actually, it’s from Kenneth Lamb, not Pipes. I looked on Google, and I didn’t find any articles from Pipes which say Obama is a Arab. I know that Pipes has stated that he believes Barack to be a former Muslim, if I’m not mistaken. Not quite the same thing, IMO.
