Thank You for (Pot) Smoking
American Thinker ^ | October 20, 2010 | By Robin of Berkeley

Posted on 10/20/2010 1:20:53 AM PDT by Ronbo1948

I spend a chunk of my week as a Berkeley psychotherapist trying to convince clients to lay off the illicit substances. The State of California is making my job that much harder.

There's a proposition on the November ballot to legalize marijuana for residents over 21. Now, is this really the direction that the state should be heading in?

California's economy is in tatters. We host the biggest share of the country's illegal aliens, and we have 32% of the nation's welfare caseload on our books. What else: a decaying infrastructure, substandard schools, and burgeoning crime. To add insult to injury, Jerry Brown may be taken out of mothballs for another term as governor. Is legalizing pot the best the state can do?

The thing that is amusing is that pot smoke is extremely hard on the lungs, much more so than tobacco because it is full of tars. I knew a teenagers who smoked so much pot that they sounded like old men when they breathed and could barely climb stairs. Somehow, that doesn’t seem to bother its advocates, all of whom probably want summary execution for cigarette smokers.

How about memory loss? I once had a 20 something female co-worker from California who became a heavy pot smoker while in middle school.

She went cold turkey after about six years - Unfortunately her memory was all screwed up and she frequently forgot essential steps in her job that led to her being fired.

Sad case.

If the resources used to incarcerate and chase dopers were freed up you could probably balance the state budget and return a surplus. I don’t use pot and don’t care to. Still, any argument you make about pot, you can make about alcohol, which, imho, is worse.

I seriouly doubt that smoking rates will increase if it is legalized. It has been de facto legal for years and if one is dscreet one doesn't get into trouble with the law. Smoking pot is about the stupidest waste of time a human can get involved in, outside of scientology, but the law has had little effect in limiting people from smoking.

Almost nothing else explains California's descent into chronic stupidity and they will continue to smoke dope and continue to vote for idiots.

I agree.

Legalize ALL drug use for adults, but make it clear that not one red cent of taxpayer money goes for rehab or hospitals to treat O.D.s.

Television Ad: “Use drugs at your own risk!” and show a video of druggie dying from an O.D. after being refused treatment.

TOUGH LOVE, baby!

I spent six months in California last year, and saw more druggies than I ever saw in my life in one place.

The so-called “Golden State” with upwards of 10 million illegals has become a cesspool with a welcome mat at the door for the world’s bums, criminals, degenerates and parasites to enter.

Sooner or later the whole rotten structure will come crashing down to kill the parasites and the producers will move in and put the “Golden” back in the state.

Typical California nonsense: If it passes, it will be
negated by federal law!

You know very well that we won't get tit for tat, we will only get legalized drugs which will feed the social programs.

>But to me, the pot movement is really about the Powers that Be wanting to keep us perpetually stupid. <

That is exactly the way I see it also.

Enough idiots in our state are planning to vote for Brown.

Even more of them, who maybe haven’t voted in years, will vote to legalize pot and throw it in for Brown while they’re at it.

Relatively few adults who were behaving themselves ever went to jail for drinking beer. More folks than is reasonable are in jail for smoking pot. That makes it just a tad stupider than drinking beer. But just a tad; they’re both pretty stupid activities, IMHO

What? You have no facts to support that spurious claim.

Alcohol causes more ill in society than ANY pharma abuse, psychotropic drugs, and illicit or "named" illegal substances and herbs. Your kneejerk is duly noted.

I am opposed to your reach into my life., or that of others. I drink red wine, Scotch whiskey, margaritas and enjoy a good Acid cigar. You enjoy your life and stay out of mine!

Nanny's aren't needed for adults, my FRiend!!!

okay, have it your way, huge numbers of adults who behaved themselves are in jail for drinking beer.

Feel better?

Your qualifier is ridiculous. You know that alcohol is the worst "substance abuse" product available to man, yet you try to portray the "pot smokers" as evil cretens.

As previously stated, you nanny-ness is not required!

I didn't feel bad in the first place. I just scolded you for your intolerance. That is not a good trait for a Constitutional follower! There is nothing in it which allows your nanny-state. Instead, it GUARANTEES personal freedoms. Under what form of government do you wish to live?

Are you replying to the right guy? I have no concern if you want to fry your brain with drugs or pickle it with alcohol. Drug use of any sort is stupid but that’s a choice I only get to make for me. I don’t care what form of suicide you favor. Have at.
