(Oct. 20, 2010) — At speech after speech throughout Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District, Republican candidate Vicky Hartzler has drummed home a simple theme: “Fire Nancy Pelosi!” Some Hartzler supporters even wear buttons to campaign rallies pushing for Pelosi’s ouster as Speaker of the House, arguing that the best reason to oust 17-term incumbent Democrat Ike Skelton is because of his support for Pelosi and her advocacy of other items on the national Democratic agenda. Skelton, like nearly all other Democrats in the House of Representatives, has voted repeatedly for Pelosi, a self-identified liberal Democrat from San Francisco. That’s standard practice in Congress; breaking party ranks on the vote for Speaker is rare. But what if Skelton’s next vote for Speaker wasn’t for Pelosi, but rather for someone else ... like Skelton himself? That’s an option being seriously advocated by U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor from Mississippi’s Fourth Congressional District, who like Skelton is a conservative Democrat with many years in office and a long history of supporting the military. “With a narrow margin either way, I think there is a very strong possibility of someone like Ike becoming Speaker,” Taylor said. Most would consider electing Skelton as Speaker of the House to be a long shot at best. Electing a conservative Democrat as Speaker of the House as part of a coalition of Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats would be unprecedented in modern congressional history. There are precedents at the state level, however — one of them involving a fellow Democratic politician from Pelosi’s own San Francisco, Willie Brown, who convinced two Republicans to switch their votes so he could remain Speaker of the California Assembly after Republicans won a majority in 1994.

The title is misleading. Vicky Hartzler is not a Democrat.
That’s going to be pretty hard for Ike Skelton to do from retirement.
Now all of a sudden they don’t like her?
Where were they when it would have meant something?
Democrats are like muslim terrorists and their playbook is like the Koran - they will tell you any lie at all to get what they want.
After the election when they come back for the Lame Duck session they will go right back to voting against America.
Don’t fall for this crap!! It’s just to get re-elected....and they will still vote for Pelosi to be Speaker.
The article only uses Hartzler to point out that the Republican running against the incumbent Democrat is using her as political stalking horse. The Democrat’s reply is, “Hey, I hate her as much as you do.” Some Democrats have already preempted such attacks by running ads critizing Reid and Pelosi! Talk about disarray.
They are running away from Pelosi and Reid because they’re running for re-election.
She can’t be speaker if the Democrats lose the majority.
If enough of these Democrats voters believe these “blue dogs” and re-elect them, she’ll still be Speaker.
No split ticket voting this time. Some RINOs may benefit from the straight GOP vote, but they can be “primaried” in ‘12. Goal #1 is to retire every Democrat, including the phony Blue Dogs.
