Soryy, but I get angry at the sheer rubbish that I read about Britain on FreeRepublic. They are talking about MY country. So sometimes I snap.

It would be laughable if it clear that those who post such drivel clearly believe what they post 100%.

NIMROD in the bible is a mighty hunter. Bugs Bunny’s sarcastic application of the term to Elmer Fudd changed the meaning for Americans.

You have my sympathy and general agreement. When Britian is Britian, she is unmatched. When Britian tries to be America, she is not so impressive. Cameron has my sympathy and support. Britian has been paying more than her share for the defense of western civilization over the past seventy years at least. Where were the Americans in 1940?

Americans rarely understand sarcasm.

Your jest may not be so far from reality unfortunately. Another Sun article linked on the same page describes the rated active ship list after the latest cuts and it puts British Navy at the 2nd smallest in Europe, second only to Portugal. Even Greece will have a larger navy than Britain.

The British Navy is to be about 10 percent the size it was about 25 years ago, which in itself was about 10 percent of the size it was in 1939 listed in the post at the top of the threed.

Britain, kiss the Falkland Islands away.

Nope. The garrison on the islands is much larger than the 50 RM’s in 1982, and is armed to the teeth. An invasion wouldnt get off the beach, it would be cut to ribbons. The garrison would either defeat an invasion or hold long enough for reinforcements to be sent.

Also the naval presence in and to the islands by the RN is stronger than most people think. Britain despite RN cuts could still launch a task force and ‘retake’ the islands.

Good points... Very good points...

I suspect it would be a withering siege with British submarines keeping an assault force from approaching but Argentine air power at more of a stand off distance being able to radically reduce supply and cripple the Island's economy. Which would prevail? Seems to me that the lines of supply strangling could well lead to an outcome that Britain would be on the short end of.

Maybe they are confusing turboprop with jet.

I would say so.

If I recall correctly, the islands also have an RAF detachment equipped with Typhoons - more than a match for any aircraft in the Argentine inventory.

The Nimrod is a better platform than the Atlantique. The government could cut the dole rather than defense...

Indeed. But I'm afraid this time we may not be able to save ourselves. Much less Briton again.
