Two Democrats Trail in Latest Poll (CT)
NBC ^ | 29 Oct 2010 | BY Bob Connors

Posted on 10/29/2010 9:09:32 PM PDT by 11th_VA

Two of Connecticut's Democratic Congressmen are in dead heats in a new poll with just days to go before Election Day.

5th District Congressman Chris Murphy is trailing his Republican challenger Sam Caliguiri by a slim margin in the poll conducted by the Merriman River Group.

Caliguri has 46.9 percent of the vote to Murphy's 45.5 percent, according to the poll commissioned by CT Capitol Report.

The poll does have some good news for Murphy, who is seeking his third term in Congress.

"It appears that Representative Chris Murphy has closed the gap in recent days," the poll's director Matthew Fitch said. "That's a difficult feat for an incumbent to do, but he has yet to break 50 percent at any point in our polling and time is running out."

In the 4th district, Republican challenger Dan Debicella holds a two-point lead over incumbent Democrat Jim Himes 48.0 percent to 46.1 percent.

Himes hopes to get a boost from a visit from President Obama in Bridgeport on Saturday.

"With the President coming to Bridgeport for Representative Himes, the question continues to focus on turnout," Fitch said. "It is clear that Representative Himes will win Bridgeport by a large percentage, but he may need at least 30,000 people to come out to vote from that city to offset expected losses in the rest of the district."

The poll shows Himes is struggling with male voters, and with people who identify with the Tea Party.

"Dan Debicella is winning Tea Party voters by a 10-1 margin, while Himes leads everyone else," Fitch said.

I am happy to be happy but I must say it seems ridiculous to report polling results to three significant digits.

You’re just full of good news tonight!

I told a non-American friend of mine that if the Republicans picked up a seat in Connecticut, we’re probably looking at a coast-to-coast landslide. But picking up TWO, well, if it happens, all I can say is “surf’s up.”

I wish I could take credit for it, but I’ve seen it on Hot Air more than a few times. I certainly hope we’re riding that tsunami wave four days from now!

If the republicans pick up 100+ seats in the House of Representatives it is my opinion that you will not see and Obama/Biden ticket in 2012. The Democrats will dump them.

Too bad Peckinpaugh is all but invisible in the 2nd. Hate to see Courtney keep his job especially after he lied directly to me via email regarding H.R. 3200.

Now only if my fellow CT residents would realize that Dick is all about himself and his union buddies and not the residents and businesses and their needs.

I hope so. CT would be a shocker. Only NY would be bigger plus OR and WA.

CT is so pretty. I avoid movies and TV since he muslim was crowned. I did watch Howard Hughes bi-op by Scorsese with Leonardo.

Kate Hepburn’s insane WASP marxist trust fund family in the movie gave me more insight into CT.

Yeah!! Tea Party movement in CT is pretty strong!! Momentum baby Momentum!

Yeah, baby! We District 1 'Tea Partiers' were out rallying for Ann Brickley (and other CT GOP candidates) for several hours tonight outside the UConn-West Virginia football game with a friend's GIANT Ann Brickley rolling billboard.

We had quite the caravan of GOP candidate-bedecked vehicles. 40,000+ fans there (including a few WV fans), and we caught them going into and out of the game. The Ann Brickley billboard was strategically placed at a great spot where the fans exiting the game couldn't miss it!

The Foley campaign bus rolled by us and honked wildly, and Ann Brickley and her dad saw the billboard, got out of their car and gave some of the Tea Partiers huge hugs! She is a wonderful woman, and is SO appreciative of the help the Tea Party has given to her this campaign season.

Oh, UConn defeated West Virginia 16-13 in Overtime!

Real Clear Politics has the following numbers as predictions for the election:

222 GOP, Toss Ups 40, Democrat 173

Two to three weeks ago the number were like 211 GOP and 185 (or maybe 183 Democrat).

Someone posted elsewhere that the party NOT in power will win the close elections in election years when no selecting the president.

The number given was 75%.

That would mean 30 of the Toss Ups would go to the GOP and 10 to the Democrats.

That would be 252 GOP and 183 Democrat.

The current House is 255 Democrat and 178 GOP with two open...
