After 84 years, General Motors officially says goodbye forever today to Pontiac. No more Bonnevilles. No more Firebird Trans Ams. No more GTOs.
Killed by the UAW, Dems and liberalism. Sad cause the final G8 aka Aussie Holden was a pretty cool car.
I’ll miss the GTO the most.
Date of actual death 1974. 36 years on life support.
My car was in the shop and I had to rent a car from Enterprise for a day, and they gave me a new Pontiac G6 - maybe 600 mils on the car, I think.
It was a remarkably bad car. The interior was small and uncomfortable. It handled very poorly. It seemed light and more like a toy than a car. I figured this was a bargain basement car, but was surprised when I saw that the car sells for over $ 20k new (which these days may be ‘bargain basement,’ admit).
Obama and his union plantation workers aren’t gonna resurrect this one.
So cheap that Oprah used to give them away as party favors.
I really couldn’t believe how bad it was.
I've had much of the servicing of it done at the dealer where the garage manager is a better salesman than the people in the showroom.
What they have done to that once great company is criminal.
You would think that once the UAW designed the Pontiac Aztec that there was no way that Pontiac could fail.
Just damn... The Indian head logo is dead...
My first car, a 1971 Firebird Formula 400 (bought in 1980) was quite a car, great performance (after making some modifications), lousy mileage, and it just ran and ran. I drove it back and forth between KC and NY at least 4 times (round trip), and it fit me perfectly. I really miss that car...
This makes me rather sad.

What a shame. I’ll miss the Aztec.
Just starve the beast. Minimize your spending this year and earn only as much as you need in order to avoid paying any taxes on "extra" income. I make my "nut" and then just head on home to the kids and smiling wife. Haven't gone on "vacation" for 2 years and just chilling around the town and the house.
I'm just on hunker down mode. I pray for the day I see SEIU members jumping off of buildings cause they're not getting their checks and have been laid off.
They just signed the Death Certificate today. It’s been dead for a while.
Firebirds were awesome cars, but there were some "issues" for those who worked on them... Just a few items I remember from my own 71 Formula 400.
Pontiac never made a small block V8. So even the 326 shared a block with the 350 and 400! It was quite a squeeze to get it into that body style... To change the back 2 spark plugs on each side, I remember having to do it through the wheel wells. And you couldn't open the doors when the car was jacked up: There was too much flex in the body!
Still, I really miss and loved that car.

My '07 Silverado crew cab 4x4 will be replaced with a US non-union Toyota Tundra.
I learned to drive on Dad’s ‘66 Bonneville (4 door hardtop, 389, 4 barrel). Great car. That was a lot of fun.
Burned the drum brakes out going down the western slope of the Rockies on I-70 in Colorado with my Honda 350SL in the trunk! Nothing scarier than drum brake fade with a heavy load in the trunk.
