What part of 'everlasting possession' does this man not understand?

Because I'm not a member of his church, perhaps I shouldn't let it bother me that the archbishop has taken it upon himself to proclaim that the Bible is wrong and the Jewish people are no longer chosen by God, especially since my Bible doesn't say anything of the kind. But it does bother me.

It bothers me because it is a blatant contradiction of at least a dozen perfectly clear verses in the Holy Scripture, which the Catholic Church - both Greek and Roman - claims to uphold as the Word of God. It bothers me because it's impossible to tell if the pope, the head of the entire Catholic Church, backs the archbishop's statement or not. And it bothers me, well, because it seems to bother so few other people.

The Pope is not the head of the Greek orthodox church.

Try again.

The archbishop is wrong. We are all God's chosen people , both Jew & Gentile & as long as we accept His truth and follow His command. The answer to this lies in the new Covenant. In the New Testament.

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

The church under islam has been living in dhimminitude
for 500 years, and in some cases much longer.

That affects their attitude. (In many cases they still act
like dhimminis...)

Unfortunately, there are still many in the Catholic church, Presbyterian USA, United Methoist church, and other mainly non-evangelical church organizations, that still embrace the false doctrine of “replacement theology”.

Even here at Free Republic:

Follow the comment thread.

When we as Christians point out God’s promises the the people of Israel, the mainly non-evangelical Christians will trot out this false smear of “dispensationalism” against us.

But we know it doesn’t have anything to with “dispensationalist” anything, but rather what the Bible itself proclaims.

I love seeing all of those scriptures together like that; all expressing the same point.

Let me clarify that, my wording was atrocious.

We are all God's chosen people, both Jew & Gentile, and as long as we accept His truth of the resurrection & follow His instructions very clearly laid out for us in the New Testament, then we shall have everlasting life. The answer to this lies in the new Covenant. In the New Testament which abolished the old of salvation through works, which I might add, does not mean that the laws of the Commandments were made null and void. Hardly. These are the laws of nature that all positive laws of man are to be founded upon.

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

“In October Pope Benedict XVI met with leaders of other churches in communion with the Roman Catholic Church to discuss the increasing persecution of Christians in the Middle East. The closing statement on Oct. 23, however, as issued by Archbishop Cyril Salim Bustros of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church,”

“...will trot out this false smear of “dispensationalism”

I guess that’s better than a true smear. Looks like irrelevent troll-bait all around.

You are aware that Jacob’s blessings of Judah and Ephraim are not identical?

I’m with Ms Barry. Lets all just pick and choose what parts of the Bible we want to advocate as applicable and what parts are not.

They were participating in a sort of synod....and one guy comes out with this...it is up to other participants to clarify if this was a group concept or not.

In the New Testament which abolished the old of salvation through works . .

Where did salvation from works exist? It's always been by faith.

In the Old Testament...sounds like you need a Rabbi.

PS...there is a difference between faith & “FAITH ALONE”, the later didn’t come until the arrival of Jesus Christ, God in the flesh.

>>We are all God’s chosen people , both Jew & Gentile & as long as we accept His truth and follow His command.<<

There are still 7 years left for God to deal specifically with the Jewish people as His chosen people. That will happen during the 7 year Tribulation after the Church is taken out of the way.
