US Representative Barney Frank, the powerful House committee chairman and influential Democrat, easily won re-election today after holding off a challenge from Republican Sean Bielat.

After a scare, Frank surged to victory, winning 61 percent of the vote to Bielat's 36 percent, with 62 percent of precincts reporting, according to the Associated Press.

Let me sum it up: This state sucks ass, no surprise there. Minus Baker/Tisei, there was a really good crop of folks running at all levels and we have NOTHING to show for it.

At least our neighbors to north (NH) have “right”-ed their ship (Lynch nonwithstanding).

MA, CA and to a large extent, NY need to be expelled from the USA. Patrick, Brown and a Cuomo are governors again. What was the passage from The Bible about animals returning to their cud? It fits like a glove here.

Also, it appears Scott Brown was a flash in the pan. I see Vicki Kennedy reclaiming that seat in 2012.

Believe the Bible verse you refer to is: “As the dog returneth to its vomit, so returneth the fool to his folly.” Don’t recall the reference, but it’s in the book of Proverbs.
I’m not ready to write off Massachusetts. We lost this round; the next round is just two years away. We need to spend that time preparing.
I’m encouraged that this time around, nearly every Congressional seat in this state was contested with great energy, and we had some strong and promising candidates to vote for.
Good thing George Washington didn’t pack up and go home after losing all his early battles!

Thank you for the correct Bible quote - you got the jist of what I meant.

Good point about G. Washington, but, damn, everyone lost. And the candidates weren’t ham and eggers, either. It is disheartening.

Ugh, we didn’t even get the 10th. Disappointing in MA and RI.

The RI Governor race was close but Chafee took it over the Republican. DU was for Chafee over the democrat.

I called Perry a while back - the Police/sex charges, either fair game or not, stuck.

The missing “Linc”...yeah. I haven’t seen anything on Patches’s Congressional seat.

Baker would’ve been a disaster, anyway, so it’s good he lost, but the rest of the races were a damn shame. It also shows how weak the MA GOP is in even mounting campaigns (we won more races in TN tonight by accident than on purpose). It will be interesting to see if the GOP made any gains in the General Court, I haven’t seen any vote totals. Rhode Island, sadly, isn’t any better. The ultraleft Chafee was the worst of the 3 candidates running for Governor, and we failed to pick up Paddy’s seat.

Bye Chuck Baker - for sure. The rest of the slate though - tough losses.

DJ-You did well in TN.

Impy-Kirk and maybe Brady. A good number of House seats.

Looks like Quinn will squeak in. :( Hoping and praying is all we can do now. We really need Brady.

The US House results in the state were excellent though. Even got Mellisa Bean it looks like. +4

TN rats were a$$-kicked in the contested house races. “Conservative” rat Lincoln Davis was crushed. And the GOP finally gets deceives control of the TN state house.

Yeppers - you two did well to great in your states.

MA is MA. Snot Brown was a aberration. Ce la vie.

Davis went slime galore attacking DesJarlais over opened divorce records (sound familiar ?), and it blew up spectacularly in his face. He’s probably kicking himself that he didn’t try to run for Governor. 7R-2D delegation from TN, numbers I didn’t expect out of our state under the Dem-drawn lines.

Cooper won with only about 58% in my district to Hall’s 42%, his worst showing.

Brown isn’t necessarily toast in ‘12, as apparently he still has a high approval rating. Patrick couldn’t even get a clean 50% of the vote (and for all the Baker diehards complaining about Cahill, even if all Cahill votes went to Baker, he’d still have lost). Baker was a dreadful candidate, and his running mate even worse. Be grateful that bullet was dodged. Patrick might yet save Brown for ‘12.

All good points FM! But it does show that Brown doesn't have any coattails in MA.

I'm surprised Cahill got 8%. I figure he'd get 3-4% tops. It does go to show how piss poor all the 3 major candidates were.

Per Howie Carr, 3 minutes ago:

MA General Court:
GOP in the House 16 to 32 seats (+16)
GOP in the Senate 5 to 4 (-1, Tisei’s seat)

+16 seats in the House - wow!

Remember folks... the number of citizens who LEFT Massachusetts is resulting in the loss of a Congressional Seat. So the State will need to redistrict... and SOMEONE is going to find himself OUT OF A JOB. So, who's it going to be? Who is weakest.

If a Republican HAD won in Mass, you can be damn sure it would have been his.

Good start in the House. And no DIABLO Governor to help shrink GOP strength.

-1 In the Senate though? Sigh. Well it’s a loss in name only since it was Tisei’s seat.

Too bad Connaughton didn’t win.

“Too bad Connaughton didn’t win.”

Listening to the local shows today, that race seemed to have hurt the most. She is talented, intelligent and attractive. If she had won, she would have made a fine candidate for Gov.

Karyn Polito was a tough one as well. Also, several of the County Sheriffs races and Governor's Council races broke Republican, FWIW.

Tisei should have stayed in the Senate. Oh well.

I'm happy for the nation as whole, and for my neighbors in NH and ME - there may just be some hope left for those two states. Plus ME can/must purge the Senate of YellowSnowe in 2012. Do it, Maine!

Maybe she can still be a candidate for Governor. We need someone decent in 2014. Hopefully after another 4 years of the the Cape Cod Obama the voters will be ready for change.

I guess so. I underestimated how many people get their news and opinions from the Boston Globe. I guess I thought more people read the Herald and listened to talk radio and that (whether or not they agreed with the views of those sources) they at least had the information those sources provided and could make a decision based upon it, and I was wrong.

It also has a lot to do with the district. Newton and Brookline at one end of the district and New Bedford at the other go 60-70% for Barney whatever happens. In the middle there are a lot of towns that went about 60% or more for Bielat this time (Berkley, Dighton, Dover, Foxborough, Lakeville, Mansfield, Middleborough, Norfolk, Norton, Raynham). Their votes got overwhelmed by the cities that Barney gerrymandered into the district.
