MGM studio files for bankruptcy, Icahn backs plan

By Jonathan Stempel

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday, under a plan that would put one of Hollywood's most storied film studios under the control of its lenders.

The Chapter 11 filing follows a vote by MGM creditors last week to endorse a "prepackaged" bankruptcy that would put MGM under the control of Hollywood executives Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, who control the Spyglass Entertainment film company.

A word to Hollywood: Keep making all those liberal ideology-based movies no one bothers to see except the 17% of the nation that has claimed they’re far-left. Keep following the model set by Air America and MSNBC.

Eventually, you’ll all be broke.

What exactly do they own anymore? I thought they sold their library to Ted Turner decades ago.

I thought the Sci-Fi Channel bought that from MGM... maybe just the newer dreck like SG-U.

Leftist ideology will be rejected by the majority of the American people, whether at the ticket booth, or at the voting booth.

Hollywood hasn't figured out that we are not REQUIRED to go and view their propagandizing and silly pictures. The only thing they can put out anymore are half-baked "re-do's" of classic films...and the same thing that makes those old films into classics, is what dooms their remakes to the dust bin. The computer age has sparked a lot of this remake business because they think they can do the "special effects" better with computers. Maybe so, but the acting generally sucks.

The Matt Damons, George Cloonys and Alex Baldwins of the world have let the glitz and glitter fool them into thinking that they have some sort of influence on American politics. Hollywood has "dixie-chicked" itself.

I hear a lot of people saying that some star has slammed conservatives or Christianity and they still expect people will come and see their rabble?

Hollywood is part and partial to the left's progressive ideology; then act like they enjoy the Protected class of the media, just because we have a star gazer for a president.

Many of them have turned me off to ever watching any of their movies, like racist Danny Glover, Matt Damon, George Cloony, etc. I can't watch them portray other people knowing their own ideology is filled with hate for America.

it’s been years since I wasted a dime on the hollyweird movies. I don’t think I am the only one to do so.

I did hear that James Bond franchise was rescued.

There's a small amount of solace to be gained there then.

If only there were some well-defined unit of solace I could refer to, sigh.

Picogram of Solace? Hmm ... you’re right, some unit might work ... can’t wait for the new flick in 2012 ... the new Star Trek will be out that year as well :-)! I might actually have to go to two movies that year :-)!

“Leftist ideology will be rejected by the majority of the American people, whether at the ticket booth, or at the voting booth.”

Indeed. In the last decade I’ve paid to see Toy Story I, II and III for my youngest, and a movie for my teen-aged daughter while on vacation. My husband and I are both Christians. He grew up in Orange County and went to celebrity parties due to his business. Neither of us can stomach Hollyweird. My youngest doesn’t even watch tv now except Glenn Beck under the guise of waiting to use the Wii. (Stopping my progessing rant now. Hollywood= greatest propaganda machine ever.)
