SAN ANTONIO -- Details of a deadly south-side home invasion are unraveling for San Antonio police.
Officers say a 38-year-old Roger Sosa and 19-year-old Rene Zapata were no strangers to the law.
Sosa has faced a laundry list of charges in the past, among them endangering a child and assault causing bodily injury.
Zapata faced charges of resisting arrest and theft in the past.
A homeowner on Creath Place said he had no choice but to shoot at the men early Wednesday morning when they kicked in the door to his home. According to the homeowner, he had argued with the men earlier that evening, and he feared the two would return. They did, and were allegedly carrying a knife.
Zapata died at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Sosa was shot by the homeowner, and he remains in the hospital.

I wouldn't let my teenager hang around with an almost 40 year old man!
and their immigration status is ..???????????
With all the trouble they’ve been in, why weren’t they in jail?
Never mind. Just saw their names.
When I was a boy, the county where my father, brother and I farmed was infested with gophers. The farmers decided they would pay a 50 cent per tail bounty for every gopher turned in.
Us boys loved it because it was a great way to make hard cash. The local hardware stores loved it because it was a great way to sell gopher traps. The farmers loved it because, by the end of the summer, the number of gophers were curtailed to the point they were no longer a major vexation.
And you thought that only massage parlors had happy endings...
and they brought a knife to a gunfight!!! Violated Rule # 1. Great shooting Mr. Homeowner. Get a bit more range time to up it to a perfect score.
Must not have completed the "Mozambique drill". Pity...
It still amazes me that criminals are still kicking in doors in Texas these days. The probability that the homeowner is going to be armed is very high. Guess it’s just our benefit that they are voluntarily removing themselves from the gene pool.
What is the “Mozambique Drill”? Inquiring minds want to know!
“A homeowner on Creath Place said he had no choice but to shoot...”
I sure hope this is not the standard when someone kicks in your front door.
Are you being sarcastic? Please let us know.
Essentially two to the chest and one to the head .
I wish we could start a fund to pay citizens a reward for taking out the trash.

My best friend would shoot his with a .22
from the kitchen table
Surprised hell out of me at first ...
Come on man... Someone kicks in your front door, and you can’t shoot them unless you “have no choice?” That doesn’t leave much room for error.
I wish they’d stop referring to criminals dead at the scene as “suspects.” Doesn’t being shot in the act elevate a person to “perpetrator”?
The third shot should be aimed to destroy the brain or, for a more immediate effect, the brain stem, killing the target and preventing the target from retaliating. The drill was added to the modern technique of gunfighting by Jeff Cooper based on the experience of one of his students, Mike Rousseau, while on duty in Mozambique. Rousseau was later killed in action in the Rhodesian War (1964-1979).
“Had no choice” is just a verbal tic. People are conditioned to say it and hear it without thinking about that fact that they *always* have a choice. How hard is it to say, “I decided to shoot them before they stabbed me.”?
I am not a man, but I am armed and kinda dangerous.
I thought you were suggesting that someone kicking in your door might be an innocent girl scout with really strong legs and that you should wait and see.
Anybody kicking in my door will be shot, if I can still pull a trigger.
Yeah, I also forgot to mention that the cats loved it too-- fresh meat, most of the time anyway. Occassionally, we missed checking a gopher trap and it was pretty gross!
