More US households short of food (Dems controlled Congre$$ since 2007, Wad'sUp with this?)
BBC News ^ | 11/15/10 | BBC

Almost 15% of US households experienced a food shortage at some point in 2009, a government report has found.

US authorities say that figure is the highest they have seen since they began collecting data in the 1990s, and a slight increase over 2008 levels.

Single mothers are among the hardest hit: About 3.5 million said they were at times unable to put sufficient food on the table.

Hispanics and African Americans also suffer disproportionately.

The food security report is the result of an annual survey conducted by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Households deemed "food insecure" experienced a period of inadequate food supply as a result of their economic situation, but did not necessarily remain without sufficient food for the entire year.

Although the number of food insecure households has risen sharply since the recession, the USDA says the growth rate has slowed, particularly toward the end of 2009.

The BBC's Katie Connolly, in Washington, says the results will be seen as somewhat surprising in a developed country that is also facing the problem of rising obesity rates.

Jeeze — open your legs, don’t use that “birth control” thingy of Urban Legend fame, don’t make provisions for bringing a child into the world and THEN complain that everything isn’t rosy.

OTOH, we have to thank them for not killing their babies.

It is a conundrum.

This is just the normal warm-up prep for the Republicans taking control of anything in Washington. By the time Pelosi hands over the gavel, we’re going to be hip-deep in homelessness, HIV, child malnutrition, teen pregnancy, unwed motherhood, weather disasters, earthquakes, forest fires, plagues, epidemics, bird flu, bee flu, bat flu, horse flu, loose shoe, and dog-do. All problems that have not been seen since around the time that Eliot Spitzer ran in to his little... ah... problem.

I see corn may double in price making a lot of farmers smile but a lot of folks will go hungry as that same corn is turned into ethanol and not food stock.

You’re right tho too.. this is just the top of the barrel of things for dems to blame Pubs for.

Farmers may not smile too much—the same factors driving up the price of corn (ethanol foolishness aside) also drive up diesel, fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, seed....

This is just the result of democrats trying to bring the US into line economically with the world. And, of course, that means impoverishing America.

For 40% of American babies, the mother is not married at the time of birth. No decent woman voluntarily would engage in procreative acts voluntarily with anyone other than her loving (not lustful) husband. And our Lord Jesus Christ forbade divorce: after a couple marries (unless the marriage is invalid), only the death of a spouse can break the marital bond.

Therefore, I must conclude that something terrible must afflict American men. They may drop dead in droves while their wives cope with pregnancy, but this explanation seems bizarre (absent a sudden epidemic for which I lack evidence). Some men do depart from this world in a state of grace while their wives endure pregnancy, and I do not impugn them or accuse them of any wrongdoing.

Or maybe, just maybe, some men lack appropriate respect for women to refrain from procreative activity with anyone other than their respective wives [we call this “birth control”] (or shamefully deny love to their wives in their hour of need).

Many children suffer a fate far worse than lacking a living, loving father from birth: one in four Americans dies of intentional murder, usually tortuously painful, even before birth.

I respectfully disagree. It was and is the Feminists who decided that having a child out of wedlock is perfectly OK (lack of shame) that began the downhill road we find ourselves in.

Shame for one’s actions is something that acted a governor on unchecked activity.

Now that is gone so it is all about the feelings of the person (and in particular women) who is performing the shameful act.

Government-imposed starvation is the yearning desire of the American people. We willfully elected Barack Hussein Obama, who promised us that he would not allow us to eat as much as we want, lest foreigners dislike us. The day is coming when, under the health-care monstrosity and debt conundrum under a semi-permanently recessed economy, the government will ration food as bureaucrats deem most expedient to cut health costs.

Perhaps if the Dept.of Ag stopped giving food stamps to everyone (such as college students) there would be enough for people who are really in need.

Some of those single moms started out as married moms. Splitting up a family's income to support two households, combined with the logistics of caring for the children, can be pretty darn challenging. That said, it seems to me that we have a lot of support out there for families - welfare, foot stamps, subsidized school lunches and breakfasts, food pantries, etc. It may be that some of these people could eat better if they'd learn to cook from scratch using staple foods, rather than consume so much prepared, processed and relatively expensive food.

The term “single mother” rarely applies to divorced mothers — it applies to never married.

Now that republicans will be moving back into the majority in the house, where they will try to cut back on the out of control liberal spending binge, we will once again start to hear stories from the liberal media about hunger, sickness, homelessness and deprivation of all kinds.

These are problems that magically disappear from the liberal mediawhen democrats are in the majority but mysteriously reappear the moment republicans regain some power.

Yes indeed, I have noticed something terrible also afflicting American women. In societies that do not even pretend to obey or respect the Law of God, increasingly including our own, these sort of mental diseases flourish. I don’t understand how a reasonable, self-respecting, mentally competent woman could decide to engage in procreative acts with a man other than her husband. Does she actually want to endure the fate of raising a child alone? I suppose that regret over this stupidity contributes to the fact that one in four Americans suffers intentionally and maliciously inflicted death even before drawing a first breath of air.

Men who ignore God and His Law and/or who, in weakness, succumb to temptation of the Devil into the cardinal vice of lust endure (knowingly or otherwise) a terrible affliction. But if they ignore God and live in sin as if He did not exist, men can spread their sperm without perceiving much risk to themselves in this world (i.e., expecting not to get caught). But perhaps I don’t understand how any rational woman not under duress could acquiesce in or even worse, invite or encourage, the lust-driven procreative advances of any man other than her husband. Nevertheless, I should not ignore this phenomenon, having witnessed it on numerous occasions.

On the part of both man and woman, however, any procreative acts outside marriage betray a profound lack of respect for the maternal vocation, now a debilitating affliction in our society.

A “single mother” is just that. A mother who is raising children alone. Doesn’t matter if she was ever married, has lived with someone in the past, etc.
