Back in town: Kal Penn, the actor-turned-Obama-staffer. This summer, Penn — who goes by his birth name, Kalpen Modi, outside of Hollywood — quit a job in the White House’s office of public engagement in order to shoot the third installment in his stoner-flick franchise, “Harold & Kumar.”
As of this week, he’s been rehired there as an associate director, according to ABC News reports. He’ll start work on Monday.
Is this really the shot-in-the-arm team Obama needs to take on the GOP?
The Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs is a unit of the White House Office within the Executive Office of the President of the United States. It was formerly known as the Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs.
The Office of Public Liaison has been responsible for communicating and interacting with various interest groups.
Under President Richard Nixon, Charles Colson performed public liaison work. President Gerald Ford first formalized the public liaison office after he took office in 1974, giving Nixon administration veteran William J. Baroody, Jr. a mandate for OPL to become "an instrument for projecting the image of a truly open administration (in contrast to Nixon’s) and to secure Ford’s reelection. Under Baroody’s direction, the office incorporated outreach efforts with consumers and women that had been located elsewhere in the White House, and the overall staff grew to approximately thirty. At the core of its activities was an aggressive campaign of regional conferences that enabled the nation’s first un-elected president to tour the country in a campaign-like atmosphere and prepare the way for an eventual reelection campaign."

First Kal Penn is weirdly hired out of the blue to work in the White House despite not having any qualifications or relatable experience.
He was given a made-up, do-nothing job…not VP because that went to Biden…but something like “Deputy Director of Giving Obama Kisses”.
The Director position has been filled by aptly named Reggie Love for some time.
Penn was written off his TV show, House, after moving to DC to be with Obama…the show killed him off, making it appear like he left acting.
Then, bizarrely, Penn and Obama seem to have had a tiff, which I imagine involved a slap fight and hair pulling.
Obama was mad at him for a while.
Mysteriously, Penn then got mugged near the gay bars at DuPont Circle and his cell phone was taken from him…it seems that cell might have had messages or photos Obama wanted.
Then, for several months, report after report came out about Obama being depressed. Even prank calls to Justin Beiber stopped making him giggle.
And now, Penn is coming back to the White House, right when Obama is down on his luck and nursing wounds from his disastrous midterms.
Isn’t this when you are most prone to get back together with your ex-boyfriends?
When you are hurt, broken, and vulnerable?
This is so like the end of Bodyguard and Penn is totally Kevin Costner, only Obama runs down the steps from Air Force One and never flies away.

Rumor has it...Kal Penn is just another ‘guy pal’ like Reggie Love in the Obama inner circle.
Kal Penn was recently robbed at gunpoint in Du Pont Circle with the District.
Du Pont Circle is a gay enclave.

As a poster on another blog observed, it just so happened that Michelle wasn't with the president when he made that SoCal swing for Boxer.
I liked him in “House” It was a shame they killed him off this way
