Dick Armey is not the tea party
World Net Daily ^ | 11/19/10 | Joseph Farah

Guess who was the real big winner in the 2010 midterm election?

The word on the street in Washington is that it was Dick Armey, the former House majority leader.

I'll bet you didn't even know he was on the ballot.

Guess what? You were right.

But he's being hailed as "the godfather of the tea-party movement." And he is being positioned by insiders – as well as his own PR machine and a media determined to constrain the impact of the grass-roots activists actually responsible for the historic congressional shift – to serve as an adviser to the Republican freshmen in the House and a mediator between them and the new House leadership.

Yuck!

Worse yet, Dick Armey was part of the GOP leadership that betrayed the Republican freshmen elected to the House in 1994. Now he is setting himself up to do it again.
What's the old expression ... "success has many fathers, while failure is an orphan".

Is Armey still a member of the ACLU?

I’ll give him credit for one thing — calling Barney Frank “Barney Fag” on national TV.

Dick Armey is a Washington insider. I trust Armey about as far as I can throw Chris Christie.

A mediator is he? LOL The bulk of the new house conservatives are there as a result of TEA Party efforts. If we've made the right choices, and I believe we have, Dick will be needing a mediator before this is over.

I worry - we all saw how the class of ‘94 was co-opted by the beltway crowd.

Rick Santelli’s outburst on CNBC - griping about paying for other people’s failed mortgages - was the genesis. It was a leaderless, grassroots reaction to it that propelled the movement.

This goes to show how detached from regular people (and reality) that Washington DC has become. Not that Dick Armey is a great enemy. He’s just a former conservative that went soft over time.

Armey is an open borders phony. Beck unprincipled support of him just shows that he will say anything to keep a sponsor.

"we all saw how the class of ‘94 was co-opted "

I always liked Haley Barbour, RNC Chairman who directed the Republican takeover of 1994. Now Chairman of the Republican Governors Association. The Electorate has a thing for governors becoming president.

I classify Dick Armey with David Keene (of CPAC and ACU) and Grover Nordquist. None of the three can be trusted and will sell the conservative movement out in a nanosecond if it's to their benefit.

This is a new breed. If they cave, they already know they will be doomed. They will get one shot at this. If they fail, we fire'em next election. They know it.

I know little about Keene but as to Nordquist I agree with you. Suspicious Arab associations.

From the article...

This is what I have been warning about for a year – and especially since the publication on Independence Day of my book "The Tea Party Manifesto."

Farah has no shame.

He is trying to question Dick Armey's tea party street cred, while at the same time trying to insert himself into a tea party leadership role by promoting his book, which is currently ranked at #477,522 on Amazon.

In the category of Books > Nonfiction > Politics > Activism, Armey's similarly titled "Give Us Liberty: A Tea Party Manifesto" is ranked #4.

Farah is just upset because true conservatives don't take him seriously. Nor should they.

Thanks - this is info I didn’t have.

As I said above: “success has many fathers”. Everyone wants to claim paternity of the tea party movement.

Rick Santelli’s outburst on CNBC - griping about paying for other people’s failed mortgages - was the genesis.

Nope.

The genesis of the Tea Party was the spontaneous grass roots revolution that stopped the Reid-Bush-Pelosi-McCain-Kennedy-Graham-Rove attempt to pass amnesty for illegal aliens in 2007, years before Santelli popped up.

There were a few pundit and blogger cheerleaders, but it was truly an eruption by millions of Americans who were as mad as hell and weren't going to take it any more. They melted the Capitol switchboards and servers and fax machines and forced Big Government to back off.

It was the people's first realization that they truly could rule a government of, by, and for the people.

All Santelli did was give it a name when the next outrage popped up (the mortgage bailouts) and the same American people raised hell again.

People like Armey are just exploiters of a phenomenon they in no way created. He doesn't speak for anyone but himself.
