President Barack Obama's administration has bought almost a fourth of the Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. hybrid vehicles sold since he took office, accelerating federal purchases as consumer demand wanes.
The U.S. General Services Administration, which runs the government fleet, bought at least 14,584 hybrid vehicles in the past two fiscal years, or about 10 percent of 145,473 vehicles the agency purchased in that period, according to sales data obtained by Bloomberg under a Freedom of Information Act request. In fiscal 2008, hybrids accounted for less than 1 percent of government purchases, the data showed.

The irony is when everyone is driving hybrids, the demand for electricity will mandate the construction of more power plants, and the choices are hydro-electric, coal or nuclear. Unintended consequences continue to dog the myopic liberals.

I worked at PPPL (Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratories) during the 1980’s. This was right after the save Chrysler bailout of that period. Every government car running around the place at that time was a K-car. The motor pool was quite busy trying to keep that bunch of crap running. Some things never change.
The feds don’t buy because a car may make economic sense. It’s always some sort of political payback / scam.
Total bullshit....they didn't BUY them, they forced taxpayers to send the money in to hand over to their Union bosses who have frittered away all the Pension Funds, and to keep Union Brothers employed. This "Obama Money" that's buying these sh&tboxes is TAXPAYER MONEY......

Rich societies have the money for cleaner air standards. Poor societies are just trying to survive. We are in an economic depression softened by government transfer payments. With 17% real unemployment is it any wonder that hybrids (that cost a lot more than ordinary cars) are in a slump?
Nope. Not a surprise. The foolish environmentalist leftists are going to find out they should have been smart environmentalist conservatives. I hope enough of them realize it soon enough that we don’t end up with the environmental problems of Russia or China (or the other semi-industrialized socialist hellholes).
