In 2005, leaders in Portland, Oregon, angry at the Bush administration's conduct of the war on terror, voted not to allow city law enforcement officers to participate in a key anti-terror initiative, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force. On Friday, that task force helped prevent what could have been a horrific terrorist attack in Portland. Now city officials say they might re-think their participation in the task force -- because Barack Obama is in the White House.

OK, now waitjustaminutethere on that headline. The Feds saved the city from a terror attack? As best we know at this time, there never was going to be even an attempted terror attack, until the Feds encouraged Mohamed Osman Mohamud to make his childish desires a reality.
And, in fact, working with Mr. Mohomud, the FBI-Mohomud created only a facsimile of a terror attack. There was no “close call,” there was no real “terror attack,” there was (according to the FBI) no actual danger to the public.
This is not to disparage what appears to have been excellent work by the FBI. From the reports so far, they identified a potentially dangerous young man, and built a case against him that will likely make it impossible for Mr. Mohomud to ever actually harm anyone outside of prison. We are probably all better off for the work of the FBI in this case. It’s just that the headline, implying that Portland was saved from a terror attack, when there really was no actual terror attack against Portland, seems not to be supported by the facts of the case. And the idea that there was a “close call” seems not to be connected to this case at all.
It seems that the reality of the FBI operation was intelligent, useful, and heroic enough. I’m not at all clear that mischaracterizing that reality in favor of something else just to be more dramatic is really appropriate.
So what would have been a more accurate headline? How about “FBI builds case against terror supporter in city that rejected FBI co-operation” ? Accurate, short enough to fit on a headline.

San Francisco & Portland need to have major earthquakes or volcanoes blow up.

Like so many others on the left apparently they thought the whole WOT was just overblown because that right wing cowboy in the White House was an intolerant bigot who wanted to restrict everyone’s rights, etc etc.

Truly Multnomah County is hopeless. This great revelation of Mayor San Adams comes from an individual, who the citizens decided to retain after defeating a recall effort targeting his clearly substantiated involvement with pedophilia. As Lars Larson said, “Portland is the only city where you can have a Samuel Adams when you are under 18.” Without Multnomah County, Oregon would have joined the national trend of throwing the Democrats out of statewide offices.
You can expect the local politics of complacency and detachment to retain this unique homeland in Portland for the creativity and energy of aspiring terrorists committed to perpetrating unspeakable tragedies throughout this nation.
The original decision to leave the task force was motivated by the individuals who saw themselves participating in all the meetings, but had such questionable backgrounds that they could not pass the security check.
well, since Zero will only be in the White House for about 23 more months, I’d say their participation would be short-lived and therefore, a waste of time for the FBI - request denied!
The people of Portland are a clear and present danger to themselves.
