WikiLeaks: British Police Arrest Assange
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been arrested by British police over sexual assault claims in Sweden, according to Sky sources.
A fresh European arrest warrant has been received by Mr Assange's lawyer - as anger grows in the US over the latest leaked embassy cables by the whistleblowing website.
Sky sources have said officers from Scotland Yard detained the 39-year-old Australian at around 9.30am. Labelling the move as a "political stunt", Mr Assange's solicitor Mark Stephens said his client wants to find out what allegations he faces so he can clear his name.
Two women in Sweden have claimed they were sexually attacked when Mr Assange visited the country in August. He denies the claims.
Sky News' Rhiannon Mills said: "Authorities in the UK are involved because it is believed Julian Assange has been living in the south east of England.
"They are now obliged to detain or arrest him."

How can we or these so-called “democratic” govts not compare themselves to a dictatorship such as the Iranian one, or most other govts in the ME, or any other dictatorship around the world, where the media exercises censorship, or is conveniently silent (or is silenced), in order to be politically correct, umm ... ‘politically sensitive’ ? Be it self regulation or shall we say self censorship ?
I understand there can be a fine line between ‘anarchy & democracy’. But, despite all the calls from “responsible” & prominent political & otherwise figures for Assange’s arrest & yes even ‘elimination’ (was it assassination ?), these ‘responsible’ world leaders still can not tell us what Assange did so illegally ? Except that his actions were ‘irresponsible’..
After all, Assange wasn’t the one who wrote the content of the communication pieces wikileaks has, so far, published - govt official & politicians did. Nor was he, to my knowledge, the one who disclosed the information in the first place. Did he not simply publish the info he was sent by others ?
We are constantly told that we live in a democratic society, where, obviously, one needs to toe the “official” BS approved by our ‘democratically [s]elected govts’.
For those who don’t know, the punishment for publishing any info that is not permitted by govts in the ME dictatorship such as Iran can result in the same action (reaction) as we’ve had from so-called Western, Democratic govts. A main difference, I can think of for now, is that the Iranian govt, for example, won’t let it linger on & won’t have a public debate about it ... they would nip it in the bud.
Assange is a low life who needs to meet an unhappy ending. But I must say an interpol warrant for not wearing a condom for a few one night stands with two bimbos who were giving it up to him because of his noteriety is stretching it. I prefer the Russian way of doing things in making him orange.
There’s slang for masturbation in spanish that goes like “jalársela”, meaning “to stretch it”, commonly used to answer to outrageous claims. I’m saying no more, but I find it oddly, weirdly and improperly appropiated.

It is good that this guy is now under wraps. However, I am not certain that he has committed a crime. Certainly not rape, if the stories are true.

For my part of the perspective on this matter, it isn’t about specific politicians, prominent figures, nor the ideological divide of the so-called 2 party (preferred) political system.
Left or right of the ideological/political divide, they can be ultimately viewed as the same, often with minor differences or how these ‘differences’ are presented to the public. Maybe one is more articulate than the other ... more media/PR savvy, ETC...
Nor it seems about ‘wearing a condom’ - though, apparently, the Pope allowed wearing the condom, reportedly, in recent mainstream media, and in certain cases ...
As for Feminists, particularly, most Westerbn feminist organisations, it has been a lost cause for decades vis a vis the enduring plight of the women in the ME. There have been & are so many anamolies, I wouldn’t know where to begin ... Even in the ME, there are & can be vast differences. For example, one can hardly compare the perspective, culture, traditions, and actions of many Iranian women to those of their counterparts in Arab countries. There are very distinct differences ... (another subject/topic).
Maybe it is about the hypocricy of it all - pointing the finger at someone they call a ‘low life’. And, that politicians, at the very least & often can Not be any better. In fact, politicians (formal & informal) are often much worse than the so-called ‘low life’.
I should think most people would object or be pissed off if their email account, for example, was accessed publicly.
But, in this case, it isn’t about ‘personal stuff’. It, to me, appears to be about what we are told as ordinary citizens Vs. what actually takes place & we are fed by official govts & the mainstream media.
Obviously, there is a fine line between what is considered anarchy vs. democratic rights to access info that is our right to Know.
Assange and/or wikileaks is certainly controversial. And, in a way, perhaps an equalizer in this case & for the last abovementioned paragraph.

By British law, when a warrant for arrest is issued, he must surrender to the police 24 hours after informing them about his address.
If he didn’t, one more charge would be added.

Much as I salute our faithful allies the British for Mr. Wikileaks arrest that hopefully will result in his long time removal from society, I ask - “What about The Man Behind The Man?”
I find it hard to believe a lowly PFC (E3) Manning had access to so many classified documents. When I was in Air Force Intelligence we were restricted to material needed to perform our mission. This was called, “A need to know.”
Also, we were highly “compartmented.” For example, when I worked at the National Security Agency (NSA) in the late 1970s, not only didn’t I know what the people in the next office down the hall were doing; I didn’t know what project the Army guys in the same office were working on!
Therefore, I think the leaker of the documents was much higher up the chain of command. PFC Manning may have downloaded the documents, but I’ll give you good odds that the information came by way of the White House.
Cablegate is just one small part of Obama’s “Operation Chaos” designed to collapse the Republic in order to impose a communist dictatorship.

We've endured countless threadbare references to the real, and supposed evils of "the military/industrial complex," but my experience is that "the government/media complex" is FAR more pervasive, and nefarious.
So, THANK YOU for exposing the real core of this.
I want to rephrase your observation as a question, and engage the central hypothetical that now fairly screams for our attention:
In a Representative Republic where government is SUPPOSED TO BE "of the people, by the people, and for the people," and leaving aside the question of whether it actually is or isn't, IS THERE ANY information about the activities of said government that should NOT be made public; whether in real time, or very shortly following said activity? Is there even a legitimate need for a State with a citizen government to have any "State secrets"?
IOW is it, in fact, the case that there is a legitimate need for our form of government to keep to itself information about its activities? If the contention is that such a need does exist, then exactly what kinds of activities are SO delicate that the voters cannot be permitted to know about them?
That's giving BO too much credit. Assange is an opportunist to the extreme.
The story of Julian’s broken condem gives a whole new meaning to the term “Wikileaks”! LOL.
