Blackmail only works if you don't release the material. Once it is out, he loses all leverage.
More likely scenario would be strategic releases to create leverage at weak points such as just releasing tidbits of info from the Brits since they are the ones holding him.
But he wasn’t the only one in possession of the info. I guess we shall see what his accomplices decide to do with it.
