“Why don’t we try, really try, sealing the border. We could also work to destroy the drug crops in Mexico and other countries that provide the source of their business. Then, we might consider going into Mexico.”

I with you. Let's seal this border air-tight. Militarized, with concertina fencing on the near side, an open space of 100 yards to the next fence of concertina. Guard posts within line of sight of the next, Troops dispersed along the border in platoon, perhaps company sized units with air and armor support within close proximity. In fact, a new Command should be created, perhaps name it the “Southern Border Command”? It could be located at Fort Bliss which already has the infrastructure to support it. Don't know if would be necessary to rescind the Posse Comitatus Act, not a legal expert, but if necessary to give our troops the right and authorization to fire on those who threaten our border, property, life, etc, then it should be done.

Then, if this doesn't work, we should consider taking aggressive action across the border with sweeps to take on the drug cartels. But, no, we don't want any part of Mexico, as a state, protectorate, or anything else. Not worth the trouble - no upside...

Considering the enormous costs, both in material and human lives, it would be much wiser to invest heavily in a secure border rather than launch an invasion.

Who the hell wants Mexico’s problems anyway?
