The elite, professional, and aspiring middle classes of China have almost completely stopped teaching English to the current crop of urban middle schoolers and teenagers.
Sure, they will learn Chinglish style Globish, but they will not be fluent in English in 10 years.
The cultural elites in China believe the USA will be a forgotten empire by the time those children enter the world stage.
Same thing happened in Japan but for opposite reasons in the last 10 years as Japan became more introspective and reclusive.
The Chinese expect the Africans , Southeast Asians, Australians etc to learn proper business Mandarin if they want to access the higher levels of China’s domestic demand and markets.
