For years, when I was working in Greenwich village, I made it a habit of looking both ways before crossing in the crosswalk with a green light.

Because there was constant danger from bike riders going the wrong way on one-way streets. Or charging through red lights without even slowing down.

This was especially true of bicicyle messengers, who are paid to deliver important business documents faster than a car could get through traffic.

$220 is a bit stiff for chaining a bike to a railing while visiting someone in the building. But I agree with punishing the moving violations.

WTF - you people miss the point. A $220 fine for locking your bike in the worng place? This is govt theft at the end of a gun. Califonia is so broke that they pass these “laws” to extort more money to feed the corrupt givt/university union thugs.
