I believe most of the people who were for this will never join the military. They never considered it, and wouldn’t even want to be in it, and aren’t what I would say is the military type. Yet they demanded all these changes even though the military top brass opposed them. I think this is detrimental to our national security.

No, this dynamic changes the entire script. Ponder this: at school after gym class, or football practice, or after your shift at the plant, while in the shower how many times did you actually stand there washing your hair wondering if 'Charlie' was gay?
Now, after 'Charlie' lets it be known that he's gay you're going to wait until he leaves the shower before you enter, or you might skip the shower entirely.
In other words, the new scenario changes how you react. You're doing things you wouldn't normally or habitually do.
Now I'm no military expert but this might prove to be dangerous in a combat situation.

The difference is now the guy in the shower feels free to make his feelings known to the other guy — and he knows the other guy will be the one who has to go to counseling, etc. if he finds the situation uncomfortable.
