Scott Brown to Support New START Treaty

WASHINGTON -- Senator John F. Kerry, laboring to achieve a foreign policy victory that would be a highlight of his career, gained crucial support yesterday for a nuclear arms control treaty with Russia from his Massachusetts colleague, Republican Senator Scott Brown.

Brown's backing gave Kerry additional momentum heading into a possible vote today. As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Kerry is President Obama's man in charge of trying to lock down the two-thirds support of the Senate -- 67 votes if every members shows up — required to ratify the New START pact.

Kerry and other senators have predicted passage but as of last evening there had not yet been enough public declarations of support to push it over the top.

Brown said he would buck GOP Senate leadership and vote in favor of the treaty, which would reduce nuclear warheads by approximately one third, late yesterday after a secret intelligence briefing for senators. It was the second dramatic move across the aisle by Brown in the last week. On Saturday, he supported repealing the military's ``don't ask, don't tell'' policy banning gays and lesbians in the military.

"I’ve done my due diligence, and I’m going to be ... ultimately supporting the START treaty," Brown told reporters in the Capitol. "I believe it’s something that’s important for our country, and I believe that it’s a good move forward to deal with our national security issues.”

Brown was among 18 senators Secretary of State Hillary Clinton contacted about the treaty.

Spitting in the face of America and thumbing their noses after a Nov 2 sweep. I am done with the Republican brand name. No more R pulls on the levers. These republicans and democrats are the same, no different, and want the end of America. They engineer our downfall.

STOP START, STOP the treachery please and go home! TEA PARTY is WARMING UP AGAIN for 2012...and the GOP will be starved of support because of RINOs like McCain, Snowe, Collins, Graham, Brown, Lugar, Muk'ski who absolutely will NOT stop voting with the Socialist-Commie Democrats! Revolution is brewing!

There’s something off about Brown. He seems a little bit nutty. Maybe the Tea Party can start a recall election.

He was always a Mass (R). The letter made the election seem better and he probably was the lesser of two evils. An R in Mass is to the left of Lennon (not lenin).

He’s channeling Fat Dead Ted.

Have a drink together brothers.

Only difference so far is that Scott Brown hasn’t murdered anyone and snuffed out a human life with his own hand.

Brown will do the killin’ with the pen rather than the sword. (no steering wheel)

There ought not to be any surprises here.

Scotty Skid Mark and F-N Jon Carey have each other on speed dial.

Scott Brown: the Moron who is being laughed at behind closed doors at the White House.

I can see it now: Hussein, Horseface, and Hitlery laughing out loud, “Brown, oh, he was a reaaal tough sell....and we’ll crush his ass in 2012....”

And guess what? I for one will not give one damn when he is ripped a new one by Hussein’s cult of media worshipers. Brown, you’re suckin’ up to the enemy...and they’re not even gonna give you a kiss in return. You’re a chump.

Thanks for the 2012 reminder. I just pray that Brown doesn’t do too much damage over the next two years.

Is this the same Scott Brown that some were touting for president after he won the Mass. Senate seat as a Republican after Teddy Kennedy croaked?
Absolutly amazing how political fortunes change in just 12 months or so.
Things like this keep me from committing to one candidate this early.

Lindsey isn’t up for election for another four years. MCain just won. The Princess isn’t up for another 6 but I will enjoy watching her spend those years spiting the Republicans in Alaska who foolishly wrote in her name. I hope they choke on her every vote. Bron last I heard had majority approval in MASS. I wouldn’t miss him but I’m not sure N.E. Republicans want to give him up with the alternative being 50 years of another Democrat. Make no mistake I’m arguing in his favor, just sayin northeastern Republicans probably can’t be persuaded to vote an “R” out over this. Scottie is going to have to build up a track record of outrageous actions for a decadeb to finally motivate enough primary voters to toss his butt out willingly.

Lugar is doable. As is Corker. We should definitely set our sites on those two and despite Hatch’s recent actions (motivated by trying to stave off a challenge)he should be a target.
