Bush Policy On Lands Is Reversed
nytimes.com ^ | Dec. 23, 2010 | LESLIE KAUFMAN

The Interior Department reversed a Bush-era policy on wilderness on Thursday, restoring the authority of its Bureau of Land Management to identify and recommend new areas for protection. Green

Since 2003, the department has excluded wilderness as a criterion it applies in managing federal lands for the public benefit.

“The new Wild Lands policy affirms the B.L.M.’s authorities under the law — and our responsibility to the American people — to protect the wilderness characteristics of the lands we oversee,” the bureau’s director, Bob Abbey, said in a statement.

Environmentalists welcomed the decision but questioned why it had taken nearly two years for the Obama administration to reverse the policy. They also expressed worry that the new policy could prove weaker than the wilderness designation formulas in place before President George W. Bush took office in 2001.

“We are not quite where we were before,” said Nada Culver, senior counsel in the Denver office of the Wilderness Society.

The rules for managing areas that come under the new designation “wild lands” are not yet clear and will be decided after a 60-day comment period, the Interior Department said.

The Bureau of Land Management is charged with managing 245 million acres largely located in 11 Western states, from the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument in Colorado to the Headwaters Forest Reserve’s redwood forest in California.

Just more payback to Obama supporters. The political system is sooooooo corrupt in America that the GOP will never win - they have that honorable way about them, but the RAT party is just pure evil. We have witnessed this in the LAME DUCK. Remember the purchase of votes with our tax money for passage of Obamacare? That should have allowed the GOP to easily pick up the Senate also. But no, we let everyone vote in America, even the ones that cannot think.

NOTHING will be reversed before the GOP can take the WH. With the polls showing Obama's uptick after repealing DADT, getting his START ratified, the public is really really excited that he is now ahead of the comeback kid Klintoon - someone commented yesterday the Obama is so wonderful in pulling this off in just a month after his Nov 2 little setback whereas it took Klintoon 6 months to pivot. Obama is just the greatest most historic President ever!!! /sarc

Wildlands Project is a part of the UN’s Agenda 21, and is increasingly applied in the US to eventually create humanless, wildlife areas of the US totalling at least half of the land. Prospective distributional maps were available on the internet for each state in the late nineties, and disappeared after that.

There are various federal agencies and designations for public lands at the federal level. There are wilderness areas, national monuments, national parks, and BLM land. BLM land is often very lightly used by tourists, but it is the only land designation where the government makes an active effort to make money off it. Economic activities like logging, oil and gas extraction, and cattle ranching can occur on BLM land. While some of it is very scenic, it is not under particular dire threat, because it is much less used than say national parks. This is an effort during a time when we may not be able to pay back our debt to cut off a source of revenue that the government has completely at its disposal.

Human roundup. All society will live under controlled conditions in urban dwellings. Nobody will be allowed to live outside of the metros.

There is a recent announcement from the Putin govt that the population of Russia is to be consolidated into 12 giant urban areas as it is too inefficient and costly to maintain power, roads, infrastructure over such a vast territory as Russia. This is right in line with the UNs agenda 21 and Wildlands projects.

Just remember that at the root of their doctrine, "socialists hate private property".

“Pretty soon....it’ll be time to STEAL it back!”

This isn’t going to play out as a joke.

I wouldn’t be surprised if — at some point in the future, after the federal government seizes state lands once too much — at least one and possibly several states revolt by “re-seizing” their lands from the feds.

How much private property can they “take”?

I sense they want almost ALL of it.

"How much private property can they “take”?"

Socialists have locked in plenty already. And it bothers them none to confiscate it illegally. Case in point, Escalante Staircase. All the congressional procedures were violated, up to and including forgery, back dating and presidential complicity. Clinton knew he could only be impeached once.

Heck they conned enough people to elect a blatant Socialist president.

Yes, but this is not a pivot (to the right). These are all (except for the taxes) leftist schemes. There is no pivot. It is full steam ahead!
