The Stealthy Spread of Socialism in the U.S.
The American Thinker ^ | January 01, 2011 | K.E. Campbell

The biggest challenge facing Republicans in the 112th Congress is not Barack Obama. It is not Harry Reid and the Democrat-controlled Senate. It isn't high unemployment, repealing ObamaCare, the threat of Islamism and shariah in America, the deficit, or the looming insolvency of several (mostly blue) states. These, broadly speaking, are symptoms. The disease is socialism or, at the very least, a pervasive socialistic mindset.

According to a February 2010 Gallup poll, "61% of liberals say their image of socialism is positive" and "53% of Democrats have a positive image of socialism." Overall, 36% of Americans view socialism favorably.

Winston Churchill aptly described socialism as "a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." As economist Thomas Sowell put it, "Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it."

A U.S. Senator, Bernie Sanders, is an avowed socialist. Many more stealth socialist and similarly minded legislators walk the halls of our Capitol (like Rep. Maxine Waters, who threatened to "socialize" the oil industry, Chavez-style). In the White House, the condition is as bad or worse. Most socialists take a more secretive tack than Sen. Sanders and MSNBC anchor Lawrence O'Donnell, the latter of whom recently declared on the air, "I am a socialist." Newsweek alleged "we are all socialists now."

Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, Friedrich von Hayek and other notables have warned about "creeping socialism" and its undesirable outcomes.Recall that Reagan said, prophetically, "one of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine..." Why and how this failed political theory and its variants, including Marxism, are metastasizing in this country have been and continue to be well documented.

“Creeping Socialism” starts with doing things to feel good about yourself.
Political Correctness is the favorite tool, followed by self-esteem and equality. Sounds good until it is implemented by socialism.
Next is environment. Environment gives goals, i.e., something to do and keep busy with: “Save the Planet”, “no nukes”, Clean Air, Water Pollution, fear of everything chemical, noise pollution, global warming, ...
Next comes the “nanny state” and security measures where they aren’t really needed.
Finally money. Make money worthless and then everyone will be equal and all the businesses will have failed and been taken over by the state.

Or at least the teachers and media jerks who got them thinking that way.

36% is just the part that agrees with the TERM “socialist.” There must be another 15%-20% that likes socialist policy but doesn’t care for the name.

“36% of Americans view socialism favorably.”

That tells me that the Communist/Dewey/Montessori/Spock dumbdown of the schools has been successful. 36% of Americans don’t know that Socialism has been a miserable flop wherever and whenever it’s been tried anywhere in this world.

That is, if there’s any such thing as an honest poll it’s 36%.

I know a 50 something woman that ‘believes’ there is nothing wrong with communism. This person was born in the USA, worships the ‘film’ industry and believes that conservatives are the devil incarnate. There is no surprise that a vast number of people ‘believe’ in socialism, that is their public school training. Everybody in public education is told ‘only’ the fittest survive, so by necessity it is government, the state ‘god’ obligation to assist those least fit to survive. Some theories have consequences.

As companies flee socialist states like California and Connecticut Business friendly states like Florida and Texas should make rules that they can not bring Liberal and Union employees with them.

Prophetic excerpt from: Fabian Freeway; Rose Martin, in 1966:

The League for Industrial Democracy (LID) conferred its 1963 award for distinguished service upon the aged Upton Sinclair, last surviving member of the group that issued the original call to the Industrial Socialists Society (ISS) in 1905. With his usual happy faculty for letting the radical cat out of the bag, it was Upton Sinclair who on another occasion revealed the tried-and-true route by which Fabian Socialism must travel to power in the United States:

Experience had already shown, said he, that it would be done via the two-party system, rather than through any third party. "So I know," announced Sinclair, "that it will be the Democratic Party and not the Socialist Party which will bring this great change to America. It will not be called socialism; its opponents will insist that it is communism, while its friend will know that it is industrial democracy."

These figures aren’t surprising. Amazing what generations of socialist indoctrination in the public school system can do to a country.

Lazy, irresponsible, self pity, nonspiritual, hateful, ignorant.

Unless people teach their children, thats about how they turn out.

At about the age of 16 or 17 i became about what i described above, although i had worked from the time i could walk,( No training ) thank God i became acquainted with people who did believe in the things mentioned above.

Although i did not know the meaning of socialism i wished i had parents who could send me to school so i would not have to work.

If that had been the case i would most likely have been a professional socialist student.

A good start would be to shut down the Dept of Education and put education back to the states as it was meant to be.

“That tells me that the Communist/Dewey/Montessori/Spock dumbdown of the schools has been successful”

Yep.

And the fact that you mentioned the proponents of socialism from many years ago points out that the problem has been building for a long time.

It took a long time to indoctrinate the populace with socialism and it will take a major effort to undo it. Or it’s possible that the severe economic crisis that is still unfolding will make obvious the fact that gov’t cannot sustain socialism.
