UPI ^ | 2011-01-02 | Michael Kirkland

WASHINGTON, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- If the Republican National Committee has its way, the already battered McCain-Feingold law will be stripped of one of its last remaining bastions, reducing the once powerful engine restraining the unbridled use of political contributions to a squeaky nub.

And where was UPI when Obama refused to adhere to McCain-Feingold limits after previously agreeing to do so?

Hey, rabs, you never answered this simple question the other day - did you support or oppose the repeal of DADT?

UPI’s boy, Barry, not only destroyed McCain with his unlimited campaign spending, he also destroyed McCain/Feingold. UPI is a bunch of idiots to try to blame it on the GOP. Americans always knew that McCain/Feingold was a joke. Barry Soetoro proved it.

The world will be a better place when the only political speech allowed is speech that has been reviewed by, and censored if necessary, by the government.

“Squeaky nub” - seems to characterize a number of Congress-critters also!

McCain and Fred Thompson are the two most despicable republicans on the planet, for joining in and pushing the agenda of Senate Centrist Coalition, including, McCain-Feingolf free speech limitations and other liberal BS.

This was done with in your face attitude against conservatives. Every conservative in the county opposed it, yet Thompson and McCain went forward. I truly hate these rino bozos. Why soem freepers actually liked Fred Thompson is beyond me.

They were sitting around with the AP, doing crack investigative research into the background of presidential candidate Barack Ubama by reading his autobiography and having a circle jerk and sending a planeload of "reporters" to Alaska to sift through the Palin's garbage cans.

President Barack Obama even lectured the justices on the ruling's consequences during his State of the Union address, saying it "gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington while undermining the influence of average Americans." During a later weekly radio address, the president said the ruling "strikes at our democracy itself."

After the lying bass turd (democrat) lied about abiding by it during his campaign and then spending willy nilly as if M/F never existed.

Gee, Michael!

You covered just about every criticism and ignored the biggest issue if them all.

The question is whether political parties have free speech rights. It appears the answer to that question is “yes” - if the US Supreme Court follows through on its previous rulings, McCain-Feingold will be a shell. And since it would take a constitutional amendment to reinstate most of its invalidated restrictions, further assaults upon the First Amendment are DOA in 2011 and beyond. This is good news for all those who cherish freedom.

Fred wasn’t my first choice by any means, but I can answer your question.

There is no perfect candidate. I always vote for the least bad IMO.

The McCain-Feingold act took power away from individuals, and created a scenario where rich money interests, unions and wealthy corporations actually have more power to "purchase" candidates. It did exactly what it was designed to do. You all know what most conservatives believe? If there is a creation, there is a creator. McCain knew exactly what this law would do, he owns it part and parcel. I have never heard him say he was sorry, or try to amend it to fix what he ostensibly was out to fix last time. Of course nearly all on this site know these things, it still sticks in my craw.

I wonder how many like me, could not vote for McCain JUST BECAUSE of this bill? I loved the "in your face" style of Palin, and would not vote for Zero under any circumstances, but out of the worst possible situations, we got people galvanized into something better than before, active participants.

McCain-Feingold is the final straw that made me no longer support President Bush.

He could have and should have vetoed it but thought the SCOTUS would take care of it.

Something is really wrong when the Westboro “Baptist Church” and porn have more free speech protection than the political speech of corporations.

Damage has already been done. Jorge Boosh was complicit in this disaster too. Two domestic failures these clowns are.

Also worth noting is the fact that Russ Feingold himself was forcibly retired this past year.
It’s only a pity this comrade John McLame didn’t join him.
