BEIJING (AFP) – China's first Mars probe is expected to be launched in October this year in a joint operation with Russia after a two-year delay, state media reported Sunday.

The probe, Yinghuo-1, was due to blast off in October 2009 with Russia's "Phobos Explorer" from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan but the launch was postponed, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Quoting an unnamed expert at the China Academy of Space Technology, the report said the blast-off had been pushed back to October this year. It added that China planned to launch a Mars probe on its own in 2013.

According to previous reports, the orbiter is due to probe the Martian space environment with a special focus on what happened to the water that appears to have once been abundant on the planet's surface.

And they’re using the past American ingenuity of men, thanks to the physically short big shots here, who brought it to them.

A little OT, but generally I'm for free trade but the trump card against that comes out when our national security is at stake. Red China is no friend to us and we are financing their military which could and would be used against us someday. We need to adopt policies at home that cut taxes and regulation (har-har with O'Bummer in office) and I would put a 25% tarriff on Red Chinese goods as Donald Trump suggested. We need to have policies of America First, Allies Second and Enemies not at all.

I do say the Russians and Red Chinese are still behind us in technology by at least 10 years but in the case of Red China, we gave them a 20 year leap back in the 1990's with Clinton. So, yeah, in theory, I'm for Free trade and I think we can do most of that with our allies, as long as we are not compromised in our security, but a lot of times, reality is different and each nation has to look out for its own interests.

Looks like a high school science fair project. I’m not smash mouthing high school science fairs but if that’s the best Red China can come up with, you’re right, that is lame.

-

By what measure are we 10 years ahead?

Even our “American” world leading tech company Apple makes their newest high-tech wonder gadget the iPad in ... China, if I’m not mistaken.

We’re not ahead. And we’re going the wrong way.

Well, I guess I stand corrected, but it seems according to that picture, their space suit and so on looks like it is behind the times.
