White Flight
National Journal ^ | 7 Jan 2011 | Ronald Brownstein

Posted on 01/07/2011 4:54:41 PM PST by mandaladon

By any standard, white voters’ rejection of Democrats in November’s elections was daunting and even historic.

Fully 60 percent of whites nationwide backed Republican candidates for the House of Representatives; only 37 percent supported Democrats, according to the National Election Poll exit poll conducted by Edison Research. Not even in Republicans’ 1994 congressional landslide did they win that high a percentage of the white vote.

Moreover, those results may understate the extent of the white flight from the Democratic Party, according to a National Journal analysis of previously unpublished exit-poll data provided by Edison Research.

The new data show that white voters not only strongly preferred Republican House and Senate candidates but also registered deep disappointment with President Obama’s performance, hostility toward the cornerstones of the current Democratic agenda, and widespread skepticism about the expansive role for Washington embedded in the party’s priorities. On each of those questions, minority voters expressed almost exactly the opposite view from whites.

Much can change in two years—as Obama’s own post-2008 odyssey demonstrates. These results, however, could carry profound implications for 2012. They suggest that economic recovery alone may not solve the president’s problems with many of the white voters who stampeded toward the Republican Party last year. “It comes down to that those voters are very skeptical of the expansion of government,” says Colorado Republican Party Chairman Dick Wadhams, a veteran strategist. “The voters who went with Obama in 2008 did not know what they were going to get with that vote. Now that they’ve seen the health care bill, the stimulus bill, the bailout, the cap-and-trade proposal—issue after issue, they don’t like what they see.”

The irony in these results is that minorities expressed more faith in both the future and the government than whites did, even though the recession has hit minority communities harder. This is because the Rats have always lured them with freebies.

So much for the "Great Uniter."
The chasm created by certain groups keeps getting wider and wider.

As demonstrated by the sad organization of the famous "Reading of the Constitution," the activism that thrives on injecting race into everything is alive and well.

Translation: Any Republican nominee for president who can count to 10 and read aloud the printed word will beat Mr. Obama in 2012. And all that claptrap about Governor Sarah Palin’s “high negatives” is so much garbage. You or I could beat Barry and Joe if we had the GOP nomination.

“This is because the Rats have always lured them with freebies.”

Precisely! The democrats have a very simple playbook: 1) Blame ‘the rich’ and push class envy, 2) promise give aways to their voting blocks, 3) promote the perception among minorities that democrats are their friends and Republicans represent the rich and white rednecks, 4) scare the seniors by telling them the Republicans want to take away their Social Security and their Medicare, 5) blame all failures on the right and Republicans. The list is longer than this, but these are some of the major points.

I don’t think 4 and 5 hold as much water as they used to as evidence by the rise of the Tea party. If the GOP can manage to keep a grasp on around 30-35% of the Hispanic vote the Dems are probably toast for the near future.

I think it’s also because otherwise intelligent people are so blinded by racism that they can’t allow themselves to acknowledge reality.

Race is the single most important issue facing America today, and into the near future. With the Democratic party actively blocking control of the influx of Mexicans they are hoping to increase their voting base. The Democratic party will become a coalition of: blacks, Mexicans, felons, non-Christians, Homosexuals and Asians(which surprised me!. This racial mix, coupled with the whites abdication of the right to govern, means it does not look good for the future of the American of European ancestry.

The Democrats’ problem is they’re basically down to their base. Which means they’ll have to move further Left to hold it.

That’s basically good news for America. It guarantees their minority status for decades.

This says it all. If you want clean, safe cities, you must be willing to enforce the laws.

Law breakers know it and so do whites...but most whites are unwilling to push back when threatened.

Whites can and do fight back. And win even in cities over-run with minorities. I know. I have witnessed it and its success. Enough with the defeatism. What this article misses is that more minorities are voting conservative, too. Higher percentages of all the races voted conservative. It’s not just a white thing.

And another thing. Brownstein is a raving lunatic Commie bastard America-hating, Christian-hating POS. Now it appears he hates all whites, too. This idea that minorities will sweep the Commies into permanent power is all they have left.

The sad thing is that 37 percent of the people still support politicians who have publicly shown nothing but disgust for the people who put them in office.

People are awakening to the Commie crap of the DIM/LIBs. Every one keep working hard and don’t let up. Stay energized and active. We must drive a stake through the heart of these anti-American losers (figuratively, of course). Never, never quit!

sad...pathetic is more like it. Just shows that the progressive manipulation techniques have been effective to more thane 33% of the population.

I have a (South) Vietnamese friend, who in a political discussion schooled me some. Very conservative. His family lived it and aren’t stupid enough to think it can be done better here.

The Democratic party has advocated race division for the last 40 years and especially in the last 5.

Now they will reap what they have sown.

A party cannot win nationally YET with the white electorate so strongly biased against them. We can expect the dims to put the facade of moderation on now.

We'll hear nary a word about tax increases...only old folks dying in the streets and how the evil GOP is going to destroy Social Security and Medicare. It's now up to the GOP to show some spine and leadership.

Yes, SS and MC must be cut. Yes, they have to be optimized by moving all retirees off the programs first. But they will have to be cut or we will never see solvency.
