Now that the first Baby Boomers are turning 65 Medicare, the health benefit program for seniors, is set to feel a mighty strain, according to an analysis by a senior fellow at the Urban Institute.
Eugene Steuerle, an Institute fellow and the Richard B. Fisher Chair at the nonpartisan institute, is also a former deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury. He says, while Social Security's woes get the most attention, Medicare is actually in much worse shape... This is not an economic problem that leads to a political one, Steuerle says, but a political problem that threatens undesirable economic consequences. "Only political reform of how we make economic decisions -- addressing inconsistent promises for low taxes and high benefits that people have come to expect -- can move us away from a system where promised benefits supposedly rise forever faster than GDP and where future, not current, workers must be left to bear most of the costs and consequences," he said.

But the democrats hold the record for draining funds form Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid.
50% of baby boomers (45 to 59) voted for Obama. 43% of people 60 and older voted for him.
Libtards want to solve the problem with death panels.

They sure didn’t bitch when taking out the taxes from Boomer paychecks.
So, are you telling me that all the legal and illegal 3rd world immigrants here won’t be making enough money to support all us boomers?
Whose fault is that? It’s our cheating, lying and thug government who chose to steal money and continue to do so. Wonder how much money we would say if we sent the illegals back and tore down all the worthless departments and programs? After, all it is OUR money.
Donald Berwick, the Director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, claims he is “in love” with Britain’s national health service, which is neatly solving its fiscal problems by, for example, denying persons over 55 kidney dialysis, and those over 65 heart bypass operations. The boomers won’t be a problem for Berwick, believe me!!!!
“50% of baby boomers (45 to 59) voted for Obama. 43% of people 60 and older voted for him.”
This boomer never has, nor never will vote for a libtard.
This boomer has a real education, and has done things that the Obamaloon and his septic tank co-dwellers would never qualify for,
So watch it!!
:-)
Speaking of the execrable Berwick, isn’t he out now with a new Congress?
And I can still remember watching all the frigging dimocrits stand up and cheer during the State of the Union speech when President Bush reported they had thwarted him every time he tried to start some kind of reform in the SS and Medicare stuff. And that was about eight years ago. Now they are wanting to be heroes fixing it.
I spit on them!!!
Fire all the unnecessary government workers (would that be 70% of them?) and let the boomers do their jobs. Problem solved.
I can’t forget the millions upon millions of babies murdered since the inception of Roe v Wade, many of whom would be paying into the system now, had they been allowed to live.
Of course it would still be a Ponzi scheme but it might have prolonged the system a while longer.
I’m a bit older than “boomers” but boomers didn’t cause this mess, liberalism did.
How dare those greedy Baby Boomers demand that the money that was stolen from them by the government be returned to them! Don’t they know they’re bankrupting the system? Not Congress, who couldn’t balance a one dollar checkbook, but those big bad boomers.
Wuddayaspect from the me generation?
I think a case could be made for a safety net for poor at the State and Local levels. But when EVERYONE tries to crawl onto the net, something’s gotta give.
What should the government have done with the excess SS dollars collected?
Why all this talk of cutting Social Sec. benefits and medicare and NO sugestion of revising congressional salaries and pensions? There’s a lot of fat that could be disposed of right there.
The problem here is that, on average, Boomer beneficiaries will have received more benefits than they have paid in Medicare taxes. This is like all the other government Ponzi schemes.
Eventually, we will need to look at insurance vouchers for the generations to come. If Medicare age patients want additional or high quality care, they will need to pay an additional premium out of pocket.
Don’t we wish we knew what the Democrats did with all that money we were forced to pay in for all those years?
Nah nevermind this is the age of Obama, of course blame the ones who paid in the money...
