Rep. Tierney’s wife sentenced to prison
Boston Herald ^ | 1/13/11 | Laurel Sweet

In a shocking turn of events, a federal judge this afternoon sentenced the wife of U.S. Rep. John Tierney to 30 days in prison followed by five months of house arrest for “aiding and abetting” the filing of a false tax return by her brother, a fugitive from justice.

Prosecutors did not request jail time for Patrice Tierney, asking for 90 days house arrest, but U.S. District Court Judge William Young did give her jail time.

Patrice Tierney’s brother, Robert Eremian, is on the run from federal charges he was operating an illegal Internet gambling operation in Antigua.

She did not make a statement in court and she must report Feb. 28 to begin serving her sentence. It is not clear where she will be locked up.

John Tierney, a Democrat who has represented the 6th Congressional District since 1997, has said his wife was betrayed by her brother and believed his income came from selling or licensing software to legal Internet gambling businesses.

Tierney got re-elected in Nov.

Howie Carr was just mentioning that supposedly the Congressman himself was “cleared” and when the Herald
reporter asked about it, “no comment”. Howie Carr list ping, Johnny Pockets.

Kent Hovind’s wife got a year in the federal penitentiary for a lesser charge.

Kent Hovind himself got 6 years.

Tierney gets off scott-free.

It's that hateful, violent right wing rhetoric that got to the judge and upset the Democrat immunity applecart.

They did mention it in the 5th paragraph (Herald). Wonder if the Globe mentioned it at all.

Helpful hint to those outside of MA in “Name That Party”: Here are the party affiliations of MA Reps

Oh, I'll help... U.S. Rep. John Tierney...(D)

We figured that. When the paper identifies them as "'Rep.' John Smith without any proper party designation, that means he's a Dem that they want us to assume is Republican.

When it's really a Republican, they spell the party affiliation out fully.

A kid I grew up with was a Bookie in Lynn, he was also a City Fire Fighter, not an unusual occurrence in Lynn. The Law was leaning on him so he was fixed with an off shore gambling business, Patrices Brother?.

FYI crime sentencing: jail (county) = 1 year or less, prison (state) = 1 year or more

Talk about a slap on the wrist for this Democrat tax cheat...but it is more than Tiny Tim Geithner or Charlie “The Cheater” Rangel got for their tax evasion, so I guess being a congressman’s wife just wasn’t important enough.

I believe Howie said the Federal judge said the Tierney himself wasn't
involved in the case, and Laurel Sweet form the Boston Herald
asked the US Attorney that said "no comment".

A listener suggested Humble Pie's "Thirty Days in the Hole" in honor of Patrice T.
