Let's sit together for State of the Union address (Sen. Mark Udall)
The Hill ^ | By Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) - 01/12/11 03:48 PM ET

Posted on 01/13/2011 6:22:34 PM PST by Bronzy

Dear Majority Leader Reid, Speaker Boehner, Minority Leaders McConnell and Pelosi:

We, the undersigned members of Congress, believe that partisan seating arrangements at State of the Union addresses serve to symbolize division instead of the common challenges we face in securing a strong future for the United States.

This has been on the news today. It does not settle well with me. Republicans won big in November. We do not need to sit together for civility.

Hey Udall:

in the name of civility, let's have Obama and Boehner deliver the state of the union TOGETHER...though unprecedented, it isn't contrary to the Constitution. Perhaps Hussein can invite Rush Limbaugh and allow him to speak for the same amount of time to the Congress. All in the name of CIVILITY, of course.

The left had no problem with division when they were in power and they wrecked our country with their leftist desires. Now, they want to stop the pendulum from swinging back in favor of America by showing fake unity? SCREW THEM!

It annoyed me, too, the second I heard it. All of a sudden it’s let’s mix up the crowd, instead of showing how many more seats the R’s have now. Had that not happened in November, this suggestion would never have been brought forth. And if D’s were to retake the chamber in ‘12, and keep the White House, you’ll never see it again.

We did not vote for them to agree. If the Rep's go along with this, we are screwed.

This is all crap and the GOP should call an end to it right now.

“Civility” is not one of the top twenty problems facing this country, nor was it an issue in the November election.

We need to lower taxes, eliminate regulations, make government smaller and more efficient, intimidate and kill our national enemies, do business and co-operate with our foreign friends, secure our borders, evict trespassers, overturn Obamacare and a number of other leftist abominations, and last but not least get back to making money and partying.

This Kumbaya diversionary crap can wait for another time (such as never).

I feel really uncomfortable about Republican leadership. Fight damn it. Fight for our freedom. That is what we elected you to do.

Like an abuser who beats up a woman and then when the woman shows any signs of getting strong will become cooperative and “we” oriented, etc. When she goes back the cycle will start again. GOP has remined me of abuse victims for some time now. They always get dragged back in with the sweet talk and don’t seem to notice that the teamwork goes away the MINUTE the Dems get their power back and tell the GOP to sit down and shut up.

This is purely because the demRats are going to look pathetic and small with their diminished numbers - and it will make an impact on the public.

Please, dear God, let Boehner and the rest on our side say, “No Thanks.”

"...We did not vote for them to agree. If the Rep's go along with this, we are screwed."

Precisely. We voted for them to be as obstinate and obstructionist as possible to this agenda...or any other that involves further growth or intrusion by this government.

Get along?!?

They'd best not. I don't think they'd like the next iteration of the "Tea Party".
