The Interior Department’s top drilling declined to give details on when the department will begin issuing new deepwater drilling permits for the Gulf of Mexico. “I don’t want to hazard a guess as to exactly when the first deepwater permits will be issued,” Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement Director Michael Bromwich said Wednesday. He added that he hopes new deepwater permits “will be approved before too long.” Bromwich said last week that he expects to begin issuing permits before the second half of the year. Asked by reporters for a more specific date, Bromwich

He means, "When the price of oil goes up above $300 a barrel, we will give it some consideration."

I would say you are right. For these people, in their minds:

Blowout Preventer = Blowout Stopper... not possible

Risk Management = Risk Elimination... not possible

Life without risk is not possible for ANY action that man takes.

“Approvals” will come after all the big American rigs have been moved to work offshore in Brazil and Asia and after American drillers have laid off so many highly-skilled workers that actually re-starting drilling in American waters again will be really, REALLY difficult.

As George Soros says:

KILL
DRILLING
KILL

using the government’s “power” to just say “NO”.

Most of the big floaters have already left the gulf and are drilling exploration wells in other far flung locations. I think there is only 3 left down from 35 2 years ago and they are on existing wells. My company has a drillship that moved out of the GOM and is wanting to come back after an exploration well international.

They were claiming that the way things are looking there wont be any new wells permitted until maybe 2012.

Obama is trying to bring the gulf coast to its news because they are red. I think that has alot to do with it. Let all those Republicans suffer for not voting for him.

Companies are going to pull their requests for permit soon. Soon they won’t even have to approve them, there won’t be any to approve.

Capital and Capital Intensive equipment is being moved out as quickly as possible. Companies can’t let billions of dollars of equipment just float around waiting for the whims of the narcissistic environmental nazis we have running the bureaucracy in Washington.

5 dollar gas on the way to 10, you know, this is how wars start. When there are man made shortages that cause riots in the street, countries will resort to war to secure those essential ingredients for the survival of their population.
