In his first remarks at a University of California Board of Regents meeting this morning, Lt. Gov. and Regent Gavin Newsom proposed challenging half a billion dollars in cuts to the UC system proposed by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Newsom said the regents shouldn't automatically accept the cuts and said, "I'm not convinced we're going to lose that half a billion dollars."

I am no Jerry Brown fan, having lived here in CA during his first governorship. However, he is really going to have his hands full as his party is so full of radical socialists that Brown will think he is former Governor Arnold. Let the games begin. I vote in favor of a bankruptcy filing for California. That way, the state can get out from under union labor contracts and absurd pension benefits.

As for Newsom, sleeze balls don’t come much larger than him, a political hack who cheated with his best friend and campaign manager’s wife. What a POS.

I wish the states were eligible debtors in the bankruptcy code, too — cities, counties and special districts (like water works and bus districts) are — but they aren’t. It’s a bit unclear what happens when a state runs out of money, as it hasn’t really happened in over 100 years. One thing is for sure: Creditors need to distance themselves from California (and Illinois, et al.).

Leave the UC budget alone. Make the cuts in the defense spending instead. Oh......California doe not have defense spending. Never mind.
