House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that she thinks Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) will one day return to Congress.
Pelosi said she believed that Giffords, the victim of an assassination attempt on Jan. 8, would one day return to her seat in the House.
"Yes, I think so," Pelosi said on CNN's "The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer" when asked if she thought Giffords would return to Congress.
The Arizona lawmaker has been hospitalized in Tucson, Ariz., since she was shot in the head during an attack at a constituent meeting. Despite the severity of her injury, doctors have said they've noticed signs of a remarkable recovery by Giffords, and they are optimistic about her chances to begin rehabilitation soon.
"The reports that I've been getting from her husband are very positive. You see what's in the press," Pelosi said. "And we'll be looking forward to welcoming her back to her committee assignments and her special commissions that I'm just about to appoint her to, the board of the West Point of the U.S. military academy ... which is something that she wanted."
Pelosi was among the group who'd seen Giffords's signs of progress upon visiting her in the hospital last week, when she opened her eyes for the first time. If Giffords were to return to Congress, it would be a remarkable recovery by virtually any medical standard.

Pelosi has a twin sister? If so that is a horrific thought.

More "pie in the sky" nonsense from Pelosi.
Giffords has a very long, very difficult rehab ahead of her and I doubt she'll ever return to office.
I'll pray for her recovery.

Diplomatically and well stated, and absolutely correct. Prayers for Ms. Giffords.

Giffords has a very long, very difficult rehab ahead of her and I doubt she'll ever return to office. The Dems will haul Gabby into the House chamber on a gurney to prevent a special election in her district. Just wait and see - it'll be covered live on all the networks.

If Giffords had received the level of medical care that we will have to endure when Obamacare is fully implemented and for which she voted for, she would be dead right now.

We’re the ones that will have to deal with ObambiCare, not Giffords. Congress has exempted itself and its staff from ObambiCare, along with SEIU, other unions, and various other favored Obambi suck-ups.

We are getting an additional Congressional district in Arizona, and the Republican’s control the Legislature and Govenor’s office. So they should be able to redistrict so that Gabby can have the Blue parts of Tuscon, and we in Cochise County can have Jesse Kelly as our congressman. :-)
BTW, Thanks for stopping those pesky Muslims in Spain!

Well, not wanting to (seemingly) agree with Nancy, I wish Rep. Gabrielle Giffords the best and if Rep. Giffords and her family feel she can handle the rigors of the political life again I hope she can do it. I always cheer on an underdog (even though she's a Democrat).

About 18 months ago, we had a local cop shot in the head very much like Giffords' injury .
His recovery was nothing short of miraculous, but even after a year he wasn't close to going back to work (and probably never will).
I don't know the requirement for congressional special elections, but I don't think even the Dems can leave the seat vacant for a year.
