I would never defend SJL, but I’ve got to tell you, we got a half-hour exam/consult with both doctor and nurse, and three perscriptions for twenty-two dollars when we took my chinese daughter to the doctor for a nasty chest cold last year.

No, they don’t fix harelips or clubbed feet, but that office visit cost the same as my co-pay here at home.

Whenever I want to understand a complicated subject, I always ask SJL.

She always has an answer, and as long as there is a camera, microphone, or reporter around, she is more than willing to share her vast knowledge and wisdom.

China used to have some good practices regarding health care but they've probably gone by the wayside now. Traditionally a family paid the village doctor a monthly fee. If someone got sick they stopped payments until the doctor got them well. They could pay him in chickens, eggs and vegetables too.

Might not work with a cardiac surgeon or a neurologist.
