Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., says the Egyptian turmoil and the threat of rising tensions in the Mideast make it the wrong time for Congress to consider slashing the defense budget, despite calls from some of his GOP colleagues that cuts are needed to contain the soaring national debt.
I disagree with those in my own party who think that we have to cut duncan, hunter, defense, budgetdefense now for appearances sake, so that we seem like we are serious about taking on the national debt and the deficit, Hunter a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan said in an interview Friday night with Fox News Neal Cavuto.
We are already at historic lows of 3.6 percent of GDP, and I would argue that it is actually dangerous for us to go any lower, Hunter said. I would argue that talking about defense spending especially by Republicans before looking at all of the different entitlement programs that are what are actually breaking America, is a little bit disingenuous.

Good plan! It would be dumb to do it as the world is coming apart at the seams.
Oh, no, billions more for a plane that does not fly.
Wrong. Everything must be cut at least 20% across the board. Even sacred cows such as Defense, Medicare and Social Security.
Obama’s idea of defense is 300 million white flags to complete his surrender of the USA to his Muslim cohorts. Liberals can go first.
The DoD may be less in need of budget slashing than some other areas, but that doesn’t grant it funding immunity.
ANd how many “billions” went into that small R&D program again?
Normally I would be opposed to defense cuts but with a Kenyan CIC what difference does it make?
I certainly don’t think American military personnel should be risking their lives under that commie-muzzie command. Or is it muzzie-commie.
Bring them all home. Get Obama out of office. Then let’s talk about military increases.
The % of GDP argument is BS. The thing to worry about is debt to GDP and that has gone parabolic in part due to the rapid expansion of defense spending.
If you cannot afford it today then don’t think that you can borrow and maintain even a reasonable standard in the future.
Gee, newsmax's photo of Rep. Hunter sure makes him look alot like his dad.Oh gee that's clever, but what else could you say about this article without exposing your hypocrisy after you posted, just the other day, that Michelle Bachmann was "a brave woman" for being in favor of cutting the defense budget?...
It was VA cuts that Bachmann proposed. VA is not DOD
