As a result, the Castro regime has intensified its crackdown on dissident groups in an attempt to ensure that what is happening in Cairo will not happen in Havana, according to some observers.
"We do see instances of repression starting since the Egyptian upheaval. There have been brutal beatings on dissidents," said Susel Perez, of the Cuba Transition Project, at the University of Miami. " It is a direct sign from the Cuban government that this is something that will not be tolerated on the island."
In a 53-minute video leaked last week, a Cuban counter-intelligence staffer warned an audience of Castro government officials that pro-Democracy organizers in Cuba and the United States were using social media, like Facebook and Twitter, to foment a political uprising in the island nation.

I can only hope and pray that Cuba will be free soon. It’s a shame that my grandfather, a former Cuban political prisoner who passed away a couple of weeks ago, will not be around to see a free Cuba.

I too hope and pray for the Freedom of the Cuban People. Lets get Cuba open to tourists and cruise ships once again. JFK should have supported the Freedom Fighters.
To: Forward the Light Brigade
JFK failed at a lot of significant things. He was too busy wiht his actresses to bother with anything like freedom.

I would give Raul the Ceaușescu pink slip. As for Fidel just sit him down and let him drool until he stops breathing.

Cuba is not a Muslim country. A revolution there could bring about true democratic reform and freedom for its people. We can only pray.

Tourism has nothing to do with freedom. Thousands of tourists from Canada, Spain, Mexico etc descend upon Cuba every month.

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/02/egypt-off-switch/ Report: Egypt Shut Down Net With Big Switch, Not Phone Calls excerpt The Egyptian government shut down most of its countrys internet not by phoning ISPs one at a time, but by simply throwing a switch in a crucial data center in Cairo. That according to a February presentation to the Department of Homeland Securitys Infosec Technology Transition Council, obtained by Wired.com. The presentation made by Bill Woodcock, research director of the Packet Clearing House argues that the Egyptian Communications Ministry acted quite responsibly in the procedure it used to cut ties from the net, after the shutdown was ordered by Egypts much-feared intelligence service. Most of the outage was effected through a breaker flipped in the Ramses exchange, and the rest was phone calls and arm-twisting, the presentation says. Ramses exchange refers to a central building in Cairo where Egyptian ISPs meet to trade traffic and connect outside of the country, a facility known as an Internet Exchange Point. The reports timeline also contradicts many observers guesses that a smaller internet provider called Noor escaped the initial shutdown because it provided connectivity to Egypts stock market and several government agencies. According to the presentation, Noor seems to have been hunted down by the intelligence service, just like many other small Egyptian ISPs. end of excerpt
