not gonna tell how i know this....not gonna tell what has personally happened to me...what I can say is this...there is no way, no how, that a nuke, dirty or otherwise, is gonna end up here in this country....the only way a dirty bomb is gonna go off here, is if the people that want to do that can get the crap here, without importing it...this is where you start your preventive measures..

Take your self to a series of walmarts, buy ALL the smoke detectors you can, they all have sources. Package with explosive, voila - dirty bomb.

Big deal? not really, just needs cleanup. But, I just told you how to make one, Here, with materials from here.

While it's true a uranium based bomb is relatively easy to detect...plutonium is a whole nuther program. Easily shielded and much more difficult to detect.

Of course they are MUCH more difficult to produce as well...and certainly traceable to source.

The best way to prevent a dirty bomb explosion is if terrorists know that in retaliation we will nuke either their country or their general headquarters.

This is a behavioral phenomenon, just as the provocation of aggression by a display of weakness is a behavioral phenomenon.

Yes, dirty bombs can come from outside our borders.

Break the radioactive source into smaller quantities and ship those into the country.

A gamma knife machine will have about 6,000 curies of cobalt 60, there are also many other sources of radioactive material in every major hospital. Get enough of the waste and pack it into a bomb the size of the one at Oklahoma City and you could contaminate a huge area of a city.

While very few would die, the psychological impact would be huge
