BALDWIN, Pa. – A 24-foot illuminated cross on a western Pennsylvania man's front lawn is in violation of a local ordinance, but the structure isn't going anywhere, he told FoxNews.com.

Carl Behr, 45, of Baldwin, Pa., said he was told during a borough council meeting late Tuesday that he needed a permit to build the structure. He plans to apply for such a permit Wednesday or Thursday, he said, but won't be disassembling his cross anytime soon.

Eventually they’ll just come out and take it down for him.

Well, It could be a nuisance to his neighbors. he has it floodlit and covered in lights. I’ve seen it, its tasteless and garish. Apparently the bright lights shine into his next-door neighbor’s bedroom window keeping her awake at night.

If I were faced with such a violation of my covenant of quiet enjoyment I’d be out there with an axe and some wire-cutters.

Sometimes free exercise of religion includes tolerating someone acting like a disrespectful jackass. I am told to tolerate people and their litter when they bury cars in my lot with leaflets when people see “Jesus Christ Super Star” and and then their counterparts who do they same thing when they see “The Passion of the Christ”.

I know of a situation locally where a business went ahead and stared building without permits. When stopped by someone who noticed what they were doing, the town just whined that he started building and they couldn’t make him take it apart, so they gave him the permit. Well, yes they could make him take it apart. He was working on the forgiveness is easier than permission angle.

If this guy’s board is the bunch of wusses this other town board is, he’ll be fine.

He just has to know how to play them right.

Besides, it’s private property.

If I was his neighbor I'd shine a 20,000,000 candle power spot light at his bedroom window all night and play loud rap music all day until he removed the nuisance.

Neighbor Lisa Fera, who lives across the street from Behr, has said the cross shines directly into her home and was built after she complained about Behr parking vehicles from his construction business in front of her residence.

"I'm not looking to be a bad neighbor. I believe in God, I believe in being Christian, but if you are truly Christian, then you would be supporting and respecting your neighborhood," Fera told WTAE.com. "I feel that this is a direct intimidation of me, that each time you call the police or do something, a cross goes up."

While I agree with all that, I notice that she employs the manipulation tactic that is common to all liberals. She accuses him of not being a *good Christian* just because he does something she doesn't like.

I wonder if she's talked to him about it or not.

BTW, it does look tasteless and garish even in the picture.

“Besides, it’s private property.”

A 24 foot cross with lights? He’s a bad neighbor and not complying with the law.

I HATE HOAs and most zoning laws. idiots like this are whey we have them.

He is being a bad neighbor.

I understand the point he’s trying to make, but there had to have been better ways of doing it.

Even if he just turned down the lights or turned them off before 10 or something.

This is a neighborhood feud. He’s PO’d at the next door neighbor and put up these crosses, not because he’s a devout Christian, but to irritate the neighbor. He claims its to celebrate his faith. Why light them up? Why have multiples? The guy is a fraud and he is doing this to harass his neighbor.

“I wonder if she’s talked to him about it or not.”

Unlikely. I would bet all I have that she’s afraid of confrontation.

Some of us who have worked nights have to deal with this big bright light in the sky...

"I'm not removing the cross regardless," Behr said as to whether the permit would likely be approved. "No man is going to tell me about God."

The man's an idiot. Take down the cross shaped monstrosity and get him some mental health assistance.

I live in an HOA community and hate them. Not many options here in Florida though.

However there is such a thing as respecting your neighbors. I have a big corner lot. The entire neighborhood thinks my yard is the place to let their dog crap (without picking it up). They also think its fine to park their cars and trucks along the curb but on the grass.

I had to put big rocks along the edge because they’d run up on the grass going around the corner, making a mess of the grass, leaving ruts and damaging trees.

It only takes one time of hitting those rocks for them to stay on the street the next time.
