Durbin: Wisconsin workers shouldn't be 'badgered' by governor
By Daniel Strauss - 02/18/11 07:52 AM ET
One of the Senate's top Democrats has come out in support of Wisconsin workers protesting labor reforms by the state's governor.
Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), in a press statement released Thursday night, criticized Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker's labor reforms as a way of keeping workers from winning fair pay.
Workers across the country should have the right to stand together for fair compensation and a safe workplace," Durbin said. "Wisconsins teachers and state workers should not be badgered by a governor who refuses to sit down and work out a fair compromise.
This time around, this Chicago Bears fan is rooting for Wisconsin and its workers, Durbin continued.
At issue is a set of labor reforms that limit the bargaining rights of state workers and force them to contribute more money to state benefits and pension plans.
The reforms have sparked massive protests in the state capitol by Wisconsin's workers, and labor groups have vocally objected. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) compared the protests to those in Egypt, saying it was like "Cairo's moved to Madison."
Democrats in the State Legislature have left the state so that a quorum couldn't be called for a vote on the legislation.
On Thursday, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) sided with Walker.
It's Athens, Greece!
The Red Menace is here, it's real, it's in your face and it wears the union label.
Dick Turban is a ,,,,,, dick turban! “Get the picture?” “Yes, we see!”
What about the working class, non-government taxpayers, Durban?
Durbin needs to meet a 2x4.... =.=
Illinois produces some real a-holes.
So maybe you should concentrate on improving business conditions in your own state, instead of hiking our income and corporate taxes through the roof. In the meantime those 100+ works are going to be drawing unemployment rather than paying income taxes, making the state fiscal problem worse. Could Illinois Democrats get any more clueless?
Make Wisconsin a “right to work” state. The bill would not be an appropriation and would not require a 3/5 quorum.

As the week has progressed, Wisconsin and the Nation have watched schools across Wisconsin close due to teachers participating in a sick out, the unions busing people in from other states to inflate their rally numbers in Madison and legislators fleeing the state to avoid the vote on the budget repair bill.
Its time the voices of the Wisconsin people are heard.
Weve had thousands of people show up for tea party events to rally to take our state back - but our work isnt done. Lets have our voices heard once again and show our state legislators that we support this bill. We need concerned Wisconsin citizens to show up at noon on Saturday, February 19th to voice our support for Gov. Walker and our conservative legislators! Tell your friendslets set a turn out record!
I am wondering if we should. They are making fools of themselves now. Give them more rope.
Durbin has enough problems in his own state of Illinois.
He can STFU, IMO.
