Does the Sustainable Communities project oppose rail traffic?
In many places the Gateways projects include rail traffic.
The sustainable communities group in WA state are opposing a Gateway project here. The other left wing groups support it, but are lying about the impact because the truck traffic will clog the roads and make them impassable, not to mention the diesel fumes.
Yes, exactly, except in WA state, we already have horrific growth management laws, and now they are working on the Gateways project, which they opposed for twenty years.
The Gateway 1 project here envisions (it’s still alive in spite of the withdrawal of state funding) many happy commuters riding the rails (as well as bicycles and walking).
At least, as the father of the groom, you didn’t have to foot the bill.
Funny, I don’t remember Maine as having a whole lot of commuters. My husband went to high school at Fryeburg and took me back there a couple of times and as I recall it looked pretty much like something out of a Stephen King novel.
If the people of Maine don’t want a commuter corridor, maybe the federal government has no business forcing it on them.
The people on the town committees think that this is a grassroots effort and can’t/won’t believe that they are being hoodwinked into giving up liberties through the Gateway 1 and similar UN derivative programs. There aren’t a lot of commuters save for the folks who might commute an hour to Bath Iron Works or to jobs in Augusta but it’s all rather diffuse. Bottom line, I think, is that these folks just have an idealistic vision where great chunks of Maine are preserved (off limits) and people and businesses colocate in harmony and you can throw your cars away because bicycles and trains will meet much of the transportation need. I’m probably overstating that a bit but these folks really are nuts.
Same here. No idea what it's about. All I can figure is that this is something for people who don't use deodorant.
